The Delhi High Court on Wednesday cancelled government clearances given to Tata Housing Development Company Limited's Camelot housing project after ruling that the necessary permissions had been given without proper consideration of environmental and town planning laws.The high court held that the high-rise township in Greater Mohali fell within the catchment area of Chandigarh's Sukhna lake and that the proper procedure for granting the clearances had not been followed by the Punjab Government and Nayagaon village panchayat while giving the project the go-ahead. The bench has however allowed the company to re-apply for the permissions in the appropriate category, which may be permitted after due consideration.The issue was first considered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court after concerns were raised over the adverse consequences of the project on the biodiversity and environment of the area (which includes the Sukhna Lake and Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary).
