The interim plea by Vedanta was opposed by Tamil Nadu government which claimed before a bench that the plant had been polluting consistently.

Recording the submissions, a special bench of Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Bhavani Subbaroyan adjourned the pleas to Tuesday for further hearing.

It said the order was only a knee-jerk reaction of the state to "appease" a section of public with vested interest
