Senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar on Monday said VK Sasikala, confidante of late party matriarch J Jayalalithaa has already been 'given exit' and ruled out the scope for her re-entry. Jayakumar, a former state minister, dismissed her accusation of caste politics against the party as 'cheap propaganda' and said it will not have any impact. Speaking to reporters, Jayakumar, when asked about Sasikala's assertion, recalled her taking a stand in 2021 of 'staying away from politics.' Also, he recalled her expulsion, along with her relatives from the party in 2011 when Jayalalithaa was the party chief. About a decade ago, only Sasikala (not her relatives) was readmitted into the party by Jayalalithaa after she tendered a letter of regret. A Lokayukta special court here has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against V K Sasikala, confidante of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, after she failed to appear before it to face hearing in a case regarding alleged "VIP treatment" given to her during her incarceration at a prison here. Sasikala, convicted in a disproportionate assets case in 2017, was lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in the city. The court also issued NBW to another accused Ilavarasi, Sasikala's sister-in-law. Two persons who had provided sureties to the former AIADMK leader were also issued notices before the court adjourned the hearing on Monday to October 5. Sasikala and Ilavarasi were convicted by a special court in the disproportionate assets case against Jayalalithaa and them, and spent four years in the Central Prison here. The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday tabled in Assembly the reports of separate Commissions of Inquiry that looked into the circumstances surrounding the death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and the 2018 police firing at Thoothukudi in the state. The Justice A Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry that probed the circumstances leading to Jayalalithaa's death in 2016, in its concluding remarks said that V K Sasikala, the late Chief Minister's confidante, "have to be found fault with and investigation is to be ordered." The panel also has named others alongwith Sasikala. The Justice Aruna Jagadeesan Commission of Inquiry, which probed the 2018 police firing at Thoothukudi on anti-Sterlite protesters --that claimed 13 lives-- has blamed the police authorities.
AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam on Saturday said he would soon meet the expelled interim general secretary V K Sasikala and her nephew T T V Dhinakaran, heading the AMMK party, as part of his initiatives to unite the AIADMK now divided over the leadership issue. He said he would also call on all those who worked for the party under the leadership of late Chief Ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa, and convince them.
