The number of workers employed in unincorporated sector enterprises has come down to 12.85 crore in April-June from 13.13 crore in the preceding quarter, according to a government survey released on Wednesday. The National Statistics Office (NSO) released the first Quarterly Bulletin of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (QBUSE), providing estimates for January-March 2025 and April-June 2025, an official statement said. The QBUSE is the quarterly edition of the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE), presenting key estimates at more frequent intervals based on the data collected in the quarters in ASUSE, it stated. It explained that the fluctuation in employment estimates during April-June 2025 is mainly linked to reduction in the number of establishments engaging hired workers and a moderate performance of the unincorporated manufacturing sector in the quarter that witnessed the share of employment of the manufacturing sector falling by more than 2 percentage ...
A woman employee collapsed and died at a private bank in the Vibhuti Khand area here, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Tuesday. The cause of the woman's death is yet to be ascertained, they said. "Sadaf Fatima (40) worked with a private bank. On Tuesday, she collapsed in the office. Her co-workers rushed her to a nearby government hospital where doctors pronounced her dead," said Station House Office (SHO), Vibhuti Khand, Sunil Kumar Singh. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. "The family members of the deceased have not filed any complaint in the matter. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the post-mortem," Singh said. A relative of Fatima told reporters that she was the sole breadwinner of her family. The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Friday passed the Factories (Amendment) Act 2023 providing flexible working hours for employees in factories across the State, amidst protests and claims by several parties that the Act would stretch the mandatory working hours to 12 hours from the present 8 hours duty. Industries Minister Thangam Thennarasu, however, assured that the total working hours in a week would remain unchanged for the workers who would now have the option to work for four days in a week and avail three days leave. "This would immensely benefit women workers," he claimed. "The remaining three days would be paid leave and the existing rules on leaves, overtime, salaries, etc., would remain unchanged," Labour Welfare Minister C V Ganesan said.
