How to permanently mute a chat on WhatsApp?

For most WhatsApp users, there are always few groups and contacts who constantly irritate by forwarding messages, which are of no use to most. These messages are also the reason for fake pandemic and hate-filled news.
 
To deal with such groups, WhatsApp users had the option of silencing the chats for a maximum of a year. But the recent updates brought by WhatsApp will give the users the liberty to mute the chats forever. Yes, you can mute the chats for ‘Always’!
So if you are done with those messages and want to silence them out of your WhatsApp, here is what you will have to do:
 
1.    Open your WhatsApp
 
2.    Go to the chat you want to mute
 
3.    Click on the three horizontal dots on the top right corner
 
4.    Select the duration you want to silence the chat for
 
5.    Click ‘Ok’
 
Now you can enjoy your freedom.
 
Follow the same instructions to mute the chats on WhatsApp Web
 
You can also select the ‘Show notification’ option when you are muting the chats in case you want the notifications to be shown silently on your notification panel.
 
If you want to unmute the chats, here is what you will have to do
 
1.       Open WhatsApp
 
2.       Go to the chat you want to unmute
 
3.       Click on the three horizontal dots on the top right corner
 
4.       Click ‘unmute notifications’
