When is Engineers Day

Engineers play a vital role in the development of a nation. Different parts of the country celebrate Engineer's Day to appreciate the contribution of engineers.
 
India observes Engineer's Day on September 15 as a mark of remembrance and tribute to Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who is considered as one of the greatest engineers in the country. Vishveshvarya is also known as the father of Indian Engineering because of his enormous contributions and innovations in the field of engineering and development of society. India has been celebrating Visvesvaraya's birth anniversary as Engineer's Day since 1968.
 
 
Who is Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya
 
Visvesvaraya who was born on September 15, 1861 in a village called Muddenahalli in Karnataka. He studied Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Madras and pursued civil engineering at College of Science in Pune.
 
Visvesvaraya was the chief engineer for construction of Krishna Sagara dam on Kaveri river in Mysuru, which was the biggest reservoir in Asia during his time. He was also the chief engineer of the flood protection system for Hyderabad and was also instrumental in developing a system to protect Visakhapatnam port from sea erosion. Visvesvaraya revolutionised the irrigation system in India by implementing irrigation and drinking water systems all over the country.
 
In 1915, while serving as the Diwan of Mysore, Visvesvaraya was knighted as a commander of the British Indian empire by King George V. He received the Bharat Ratna in 1955, became a member of the London Institution of Civil Engineers before he was awarded a fellowship by the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore.
