Who is C R Patil?
Chandrakant Raghunath Patil is an Indian politician and BJP leader. He is also a four-time member of Parliament from Navsari in Gujarat. He is currently Minister of Jal Shakti in the Union Government.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he defeated Congress candidate Naishadhbhai Bhupatbhai Desai by 773,551 votes.
He is also the state unit chief of BJP in Gujarat. Under his leadership, the party has won 156 out of 182 seats in the state assembly elections to claim a landslide victory.
According to his website, crpatil.com, he was born in Pimpry Akaraut village near Jalgaon in Maharashtra in the family of Raghunath and Sarubai Patil on March 16, 1955; and came to adjoining state Gujarat when his Police Constable father migrated to South Gujarat in 1951.
He started his career as a police constable in Gujarat in 1975.
The website further states that he began a Gujarati Daily named ‘Navgujarat Times’ in 1991.
Political journey:
1989: Assigned responsibilities as Surat City BJP Treasurer and then as the Vice President for Surat City BJP
1998: Appointed as the Chairman of State PSU Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL)
2009: Elected as the member of Parliament from the newly formed Navsari Constituency in South Gujarat
2014: Re-elected as the member of Parliament from Navsari in the 16th Lok Sabha Elections with the record of maximum votes in the State and third-highest winner in the Lok Sabha defeating Maqsood Mirza of INC
2019: Won the election from Navsari for the third consecutive time a record margin of 689,000 votes
2024: With his fourth victory, he was given a place in the Narendra Modi’s cabinet with the portfolio of Jal Shakti ministry
