Who is Sanjay Singh

Sanjay Singh is an Indian politician, who has been serving Rajya Sabha from Delhi since 2018. The politician is the spokesperson for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the state-in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan. He is a senior party leader who has been with AAP since the creation of the party in November 2012, and he is a member of its foremost decision-making body, the Politician Affairs Committee (PAC). 
 
He came together with Delhi CM Kejriwal in his political campaign when Anna Hazare led the Right to Information campaign from 2006 to the 2011 Indian anti-corruption movement. He was elected as Rajya Sabha member on January 8, 2018, from the state of Delhi. 
 
Sanjay Singh Personal Life
Sanjay Singh was born on March 22, 1972, in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Sanjay Singh married Shrimati Anita Singh in 1994 and they both had two children. He holds a Diploma in Mining Engineering. Before joining Aam Aadmi Party, he was affiliated with Samajwadi Party until 2007. 
 
Sanjay Singh participated in various welfare and socialist conferences and socialist conferences and movements, along with fellow companions of socialist leader Raghu Thakur.
 
Sanjay has offered his services for disaster relief operations in Uttarakhand,  Jammu and Kashmir, Nepal, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Nepal. He, thereafter, carried on the legacy of Anna Hazare's 2011 Anti-Corruption movement worldwide.
 
Sanjay Singh's Political Career
In 1994, Sanjay Singh started Sultanpur Samaj Sewa Sangathan, which aimed to organise blood camps, blood donation camps, health camps and people rights campaigns. He was associated with the socialist leader Raghu Thakur of the Democratic Socialist Party for Hawkers' rights. He also worked for Azad Sewa Samiti, which later became the National Hawkers' Association.
 
He was one of the people who was associated with the Aam Aadmi Party from the very beginning, and he also served as the Delhi state-in-charge for the elections.
 
Sanjay Singh took oath as Rajya Sabha MP from Delhi in 2018. 
 
Singh has been an active member of parliament since 2018 and he often used to be in headlines for his bold statements against issues in the country. He has also been a member of several committees, like the Silk Board of India, the Parliamentary Friendship Group on Latin American Countries (LAC), and the Standing Committee and Consultative Committee on Urban Development. He was also part of the Standing Committee on Coal and Steel. 
 
The AAP leader is also known for his statements, and he also participated in different important parliamentary debates which include the Rafale deal for which a 5000 crore defamation suit was filed against Sanjay Singh by Anil Ambani's group Reliance Defence. Singh has often shown concern about child deaths due to malnutrition, prevention of child trafficking, and strong punishment for sexual abuse of children. He was also awarded with the PGC Award by UNICEF India in 2020 for his efforts.
 
Aam Aadmi Party member Sanjay Singh expressed strong dissent against the "unconstitutional" passing of the bills in the Monsoon session of 2020 and called them "Black Laws" for farmers. Sanjay Singh was suspended with seven other members of the Rajya Sabha for their "unruly behaviour," he tore all the documents breaking mics and allegedly heckling the Rajya Sabha's Deputy Chairman. He held a peaceful protest outside the Rajya Sabha upon his suspension. 
 
Singh also served as Punjab state unit of the AAP party, and he even contested the 2017 Punjab Assembly election. The party became the biggest opposition in its debut electoral contest spearheading AAP's civic polls campaign in Uttar Pradesh.

Lesser known facts about Sanjay Singh
Sanjay Singh's first "Andolan'' was for the people's rights and against corruption in Keonjhar, Odisha, Rajasthan.
 
He is popularly known as Aam Aadmi Party's "Sankat Mochan" and emerged as a trusted lieutenant of the Aam Aadmi Party. He is the party's most critical leader when it comes to conflict resolution and any tricky negotiations. 
 
He also worked with Sandeep Pandey in 2002 and was associated with Medha Patkar, Ashgar Ali Engineer (Social Activist) and Ram Punyani ( former professor, IIT Bombay) through anti-Coca Cola agitation in 2007.
 
In 2011, he came closer to Arvind Kejriwal through Anna Hazzare's campaign of India Against Corruption (IAC). Under Hazare and Kejriwal, he led the five-day protest in Sultanpur, Rae Bareli and Amethi. After his protest gained momentum, he became the National Executive of India Against Corruption.
 
He travelled many kilometres to establish the Aam Aadmi Party at the grassroots level in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab to lead the party's promotions.

The Enforcement Directorate on October 4, 2023, raided Sanjay Singh’s house in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Sanjay Singh’s name has been mentioned in the chargesheet filed in the Delhi liquor policy case. However, the party is backing Singh and citing that the agency is targeting Singh for raising the Adani matter in the parliament.
 
According to the chargesheet filed by ED, businessman Dinesh Arora, who is an accused in the liquor policy case met Delhi CM Kejriwal in the presence of Sanjay Singh.
 
The agency also alleges that Sanjay Singh resolved Dinesh Arora’s longstanding issue with the liquor department.
