Nod for chess matches in Chennai

The match for World Chess Championship Title for 2012 is to be held at Chennai during April-May that year. The state government has given its nod for the conduct of the Championship Title, which would cost around Rs 20 crore.

The announcement came after a meeting between Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa and Kirsan Illyumzhinov, president, World Chess Federation.

The match between defending champion Viswanathan Anand and Israeli grand master Boris Gelfand will be organised in Chennai. It is for the first time that the match for World Chess Championship title held in India, the statement said.

Almost 10 out of the total 24 grand masters in India are from Tamil Nadu.
