Anil Agarwal bags Mining Journal award

Metal and mining major Vedanta Resources today said its Chairman Anil Agarwal has been conferred with the "Lifetime Achievement Award - 2009" by international weekly-- Mining Journal, for outstanding contribution to the mining industry.

"Mining Journal, one of the most reputed international weekly magazine presented "Lifetime Achievement Award - 2009" to Anil Agarwal, the Chairman of Vedanta Group in London on December 2...For his contribution in the mining industry," the company said in a statement.

The journal described Agarwal's business approach as "to visualise and then to allow his team to deliver" while describing him as a "visionary entrepreneur" and the founder of one of the most prominent, and fastest growing, metals and mining groups in the world, the statement said.

The India focused mining group has operations in Africa an Australia. It has operations in zinc, aluminium, copper and iron ore sectors.

"Anil Agarwal's story is a... story of a humble beginner - a metal trader - who is today, one of the most prominent and successful metals entrepreneur," the statement added quoting the journal.

Agarwal has targeted to enter the power businesses in a big way by installing power generation capacity of about 11,000 Mw in next 5-6 years under a group subsidiary Sterlite Energy, it added. Vedanta Resources primarily operate in India through its flagship firm Sterlite Industries.
