After selling 1.6 million units of Motorola phones in seven months, online retailer Flipkart has launched three Motorola products exclusively: The Moto G, Moto X and Moto 360 (smart watch).

Flipkart’s tie-up with smartphone makers like China’s Xiaomi and Motorola has proved a success. It crossed $1-billion gross merchandise sales volume in February.

The Moto G will be priced Rs 1,000 less than the earlier version at Rs 12,999. The phone will be up for sale from Friday (September 5) midnight. The other two will be launched later this month.

“This time we have taken lessons from our experience and are ready with the technology to process thousands of transactions in a minute. We have adequate volumes to cater to the first tranche of demand,” said Michael Adnani, vice-president, retail and head, strategic brand alliances.

US-based Motorola has seen a revival in the country since the launch of Moto G in February. In less than a year of re-entering the Indian market, it has become the fourth-largest smartphone seller, according to a Canalys’s report. The company has been selling its lead products only through  Flipkart. “Motorola is aggressively looking to expand its teams in Delhi and cities after the success of Moto G and Moto X,” a source said.

Competitors Snapdeal and Amazon have trailed in attracting international brands for exclusive tie-ups.
