Godrej sets up new facility near Pune

Invests Rs 60 crore for furniture manufacturing plant

Godrej Interio, home and office furniture manufacturer is setting up a new facility at Shirwal near Pune. The company is investing Rs 60 crore for this new plant and it will get fully operational by June 2012.

It will help the company to reduce burden from its Mumbai's manufacturing plant located at Vikroli. Along with furniture, it will manufacture pre-laminanted wooden sheets and mattresses as well.

Speaking on this, Anil Mathur, COO Godrej Interio said, "The company has 12 acres of land in Shirwal. The facility will start its production in the first phase by November 2011 and it will be fully operation by June next year. We have already invested Rs 60 crore in this facility. The total investment in the furniture business in Rs 150 crore."

The company today launched new range of mattress category named 'Comfy Meter' in Pune..

It has made additional investment of Rs 10 crore for this business. It will add 75 dealers across India for the mattress distribution. Already, its has 700 dealers for it.

Godrej Interio mattresses are now available in latex, spring, rubberized coir and memory foam, the categories. On the mattress business, Mathur said, "Godrej Interio has been retailing mattresses since 2007 and has touched the lives of more than 2,00,000 customers with the wide range of healthy and thoughtfully designed mattresses. With increasing stressful living conditions, a restful sleep helps one perform more fruitfully in all aspects of life. As a market leader we are constantly striving to offer technologically superior products which are not currently available in India and are confident that ‘Comfy Meter’ will create a major impact in the Mattress industry.

He added, " In less than 3 years we have garnered substantial market share in the mattress category and are targeting growth of at least 50 per cent for the financial year 2011-12. Maharashtra is considered one of our leading markets and we feel this growth will be achieved through Godrej Interio’s extensive market presence with 1200 channel partners across India while over 800 more channels will be opened during the year."
