Havells India eyes 200 mn dollars exports by 2014

Electrical equipment maker Havells India targets exports worth $200 million (approximately Rs 1,000 crore) from its unit in Rajasthan in the next five years.

"We are targeting exports worth $200 million from this (Neemrana) unit in five years," Joint Managing Director Havells India Anil Gupta told reporters here.

This plant has been set up keeping the European markets in mind, he added.

The company intends to export nearly half of the total production of the plant to the European Union countries. It has invested close to Rs 150 crore in the plant.

Out of the total exports, about $150 million would come from its compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) unit and the remaining $50 million from its motor manufacturing unit at the plant.

The company plans to manufacture 40 million units of CFL and 20,000 units of motors per month from this plant. The size of the motor market in India is around Rs 3,500 crore and it finds applications in the power, steel, sugar, cement, paper and plastic sectors.

Havells India Ltd acquired international lighting products maker Sylvania in 2007 and is currently in the process of restructuring the global operations to generate efficiencies.
