Japanese commercial vehicles producer Isuzu is set to start manufacturing of pick-up trucks at its upcoming facility in Sri City special economic zone in Andhra Pradesh from April 2016.

The company is setting up the manufacturing unit with an initial investment of Rs 1,500 crore. It is expected to provide nearly 1,500 to 2000 jobs to locals.

A delegation led by Isuzu India managing director Takashi Kikuchi met the state chief minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, on Monday to update him on the progress of the production facility.

Kikuchi was stated to have informed the chief minister that nearly 75 suppliers were keen to invest in the state. "We will require the government to drive ancillary industries too," he told Naidu.

Replying to the suggestion, the chief minister, according to an official press release, said the state government would come up with a policy for ancillary industries in the next Cabinet meeting. The state would also identify clusters within Sri City and in other areas where ancillary industries could be set up.

The chief minister also told the delegation that he wanted to make Nellore-Chennai-Tirupati as the automobile hub on the lines of Tokyo-Kawasaki-Yokohama in Japan.
