MERC order capping open access against competition

Tata Power has observed Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (MERC) move to prevent a few categories of consumers from changeover was against the competitive spirit. The company noted, “We can always acquire them as a part of our licence.” The regulator has directed Tata Power not to indulge in cherry-picking of Reliance Infra consumers. However, MERC has allowed the changeover only for those who consume up to 300 units a month.
