National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), the largest power generating company in India plans to add 3,300 MW of power in 2009-10. The capacity addition would come from the expansion of NTPC’s four projects at Sipat (Chhattisgarh), Dadri (Uttar Pradesh), Kahalgaon (Bihar) and Bhilai, said a company release.
While 1,320 MW would be added from NTPC’s Sipat stage-I expansion, the stage-II expansion of the Dadri plant would account for another 1,980 MW and the Kahalgaon as well as Bhilai expansion projects would contribute 500 MW each.
In 2008-09, NTPC added 1,000 MW of power and the power major had a total installed capacity of 30,144 MW by the end of this fiscal.
NTPC aimed to add 22,430 MW of power during the 11th Plan period (2007-12). Out of the targeted capacity addition, the power major has already commissioned 2,740 MW while projects with a cumulative capacity of 17,930 MW were under implementation. In 2008-09, NTPC had generated 206. 94 billion units of power, accounting for about 28 per cent of the total power generated in the country.
