Leading hospitality chain Oberoi Group is planning to set up 10 more hotels in India and abroad by the end of 2011 and adding 2,300 rooms.
"A decision to open 10 new hotels has been taken at the annual general meeting of the company held in Kolkata earlier today. Although no discussion took place regarding the investment modalities, the meeting took note of modalities like the room capacity and ownership structure for the new hotels," an Oberoi Group official told PTI.
The official, however, said investments for the purpose has not been discussed in the meeting.
The group has presently 30 properties under the brand name of Oberoi (luxury segment) and Trident (five-star) and the new additions would take the total number of hotels operated by the chain to 40 during the next three and half years.
It also has a room capacity of around 4,400 rooms and the new additions would take the figure to 6,700 rooms during the period.
The official said four of the new hotels would come up abroad and the rest in India.
"We will have, under the Oberoi brand, one City hotel at Dubai, two (one City and a Leisure) in Abu Dhabi and one City in Muscat in Oman," the official said.
The Trident brand was earlier known as 'Trident Hilton' before the strategic alliance between Oberoi Group and the global hotel chain Hilton International ceased in March-end this year.
The group is currently in planning and development stages on eight properties in India and six of them would be ready and operational by end of 2011, the official added.
