Sectors led by travel and tourism and information technology have led recruiters, as the economy seems to reverse a slowdown, according to the index. Since October 2013, the index is showing an improvement monthly. Yearly, too, the index registered a significant improvement of 14 per cent from an index point of 133 in February 2013 to 152 in February 2014.
The study has pegged the growth of jobs in IT sector at 33 per cent while the Travel and Tourism sector saw a 32 per cent growth. Education up 18 per cent, and Healthcare 30 per cent were the other top job providers. The study also pointed out that the manufacturing and production sector has also seen a 32 per cent growth in job opportunities. Jobs across the automotive sector meanwhile fell by 13 per cent during the period.
"While 2013 saw subdued hiring on the whole, 2014 appears to be more promising. Indian employers are also expected to hire aggressively in the second quarter while the projected average salary hike in the year 2014 is of 10 percent ", said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster.com, India said.
Meanwhile, among job groups, Senior Management professionals saw the most notable growth in demand between Feb'13 and Feb'14 with the group seeing a 50 per cent growth in job opportunities. "Purchase/ Logistics/ Supply Chain (up 10 percent) personnel registered a positive year-on-year growth in demand for the first time since Feb'13 while Arts/Creative (down 34 percent) professional recorded most significant annual decline among occupation groups even this month. This is the tenth successive annual decline of the series", the study said.
Bangalore has led all Indian cities in terms of recruitment activity while Kochi has witnessed a fast paced growth, largely due to the improvement in IT sector in the state. Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad and Chennai also registered an uptrend in year-on-year recruitment activity, the report
added while Baroda and Coimbatore witnessed decline in growth.
Last month, a study led by Aon Hewitt had said that sectors largely reliant on the domestic economy such as Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Engineering Services and Consumer Goods, are expected to offer the highest salary increases during the upcoming year, typically above 10% for 2013-14.
