The Orissa government has decided to develop various port based industries near Dhamara Port, which is being set up jointly by Tata Steel and L&T in Bhadrak district. It has constituted a committee to identify industries which can be developed in this area.
Since a ship building yard is proposed to be set up near Dhamara, the committee, headed by the director of industries, has been asked to identify various ancillary and downstream units which can be located there.
Similarly, the possibility of setting up a petro-chemical and gas based hub would also be explored. Apart from priority on import based and export oriented units, the committee would also identify other industries suitable for the location.Sources said, the committee would submit its report within three months, after which the government would take a decision.
Meanwhile, IL&FS has been entrusted to prepare a zoning plan, administrative structure, acts and rules required for the governance of the Special Investment Region (SIR) proposed in Dhamara. It would also suggest measures for provision of housing, health services and other urban amenities in the SIR area, sources added.
