Intel has said on Monday that Prakash Mallya will take over as the managing director for South Asia. Mallya, who joined the US-based semiconductor major in 2000 as business development manager in India for financial services segment, will develop new growth areas in the South Asian region.

An electrical engineering graduate and MBA in marketing from Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Tiruchirapalli, Mallya was Director for Intel's Datacenter Group in Asia before this role. He held different regional positions at the company during the last 16 years across sales, marketing and enablement of Intel products.

Mallya has replaced Debjani Ghosh, who will step down by the end of next month to work on projects for Digital India initiative. He will take charge with immediate effect.

"This is a decision Debjani has been considering for some time. She has been extremely passionate and committed to helping the country make progress on its vision of Digital India and she has decided she would like to devote more of her time and energy to this endeavour," said Intel in a statement.

Debjani joined the company in 1996 and held different roles for 21 years. She served as the managing director for Intel South Asia since 2012 and has been instrumental in leading growth with her strong business acumen and leadership. (EoM)
