Quess Corp, the services firm with investments from Canadian billionaire Prem Watsa, is looking to offer operation and maintenance services to airports, roads, ports and health services.

The Bengaluru-based firm has set up a division called the public infrastructure services group, looking at taking over public infrastructure and managing it on agreed service levels replicating its success in the private industry.

"There are airports, roads, ports, health services, railways etc, wherever citizen services are being offered. We are building this out, we are in conversations with various state governments on some of the public infrastructure that we will like to involved with," said Ajit Isaac, chairman and managing director Quess Corp.

Quess manages over 2,000 mega watts of power production; has set up solar energy plants and handles production of steel for its clients.

"We want to use the skills that we have got in the O and M in the private sector to build that in the operations and management in the public sector," said Isaac.

Quess is looking to tap the opportunities that would emerge when regional airports would be opened up for operations. The company believes its expertise would help offer service based on agreed terms, helping these airports improve quality of service and differentiate themselves to customers.

"India is one of the most underserved countries by air traffic, the number of seats available by the population, the number people going to fly is going to be very high. Second is number of regional airlines opening up because of the Rs 2500 scheme, I think you will find regional airlines and unused airports will open up. So I think there is opportunity in all of this," he said.
