Skoda Auto India, part of the Volkswagen group, today launched Skoda Superb 2.0TDI PD (diesel version) and 3.6V6 FSI 4X4 (Petrol version).

The company said it was also conducting a feasibility study for introducing two cars, Fabia Combi and Roomster, by the year-end or early 2010. The cars will be in ‘C’ segment (mid-size car market). “We are conducting a feasibility study in the Indian market and are evaluating various options before launching these cars,” said Ashutosh Dixit, general manager, sales, Skoda Auto India.

In addition to these two, Skoda would also launch Skoda Yeti, its sports utility vehicle, early next year, Dixit said.

Dixit said the company would also introduce more variants of the Superb over the year, as well as a small car for the Indian market in the next two years. The new car will be placed below Skoda Fabia, the current entry-level car.

The company had received 600 bookings for Superb, of which 300 have been delivered. With the launch of the diesel version, the company hoped to do well in the current year in ‘D’ segment, he said. Thomas Kuehl, board member, sales and marketing, Skoda Auto India, said the company was ramping up its production capacities in India to deliver more cars. Skoda currently imports completely knocked down kits and assembles at its Aurangabad plant, where it has a capacity for 40,000 cars a year.
