After having set up India's largest wind farm a single location, wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon Energy has now planned to double the capacity of this wind farm at Jhakhau in Kutch.

The present capacity of this wind farm is 750 Mw, which Suzlon proposes to increase to 1,500 Mw. Post expansion, Jhakhau wind project would be far ahead of other large wind farms at single location in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. "The company has already submitted its development plan to the state government and we hope to double the capacity of the wind farm in two years time," said Harish Mehta, director, Suzlon Group.

In addition to Gujarat, Suzlon also has 350 Mw and 250 Mw wind farms at Maharashtra's Satara and Dhule respectively.

With Gujarat government announcing slew incentives to promote wind power generation in the state, more and more companies are coming forward to put up their projects in Gujarat. Winwind Power Energy Pvt Ltd, too, has firmed up its plans to set up 100 Mw wind farm at Surajbari near Jamnagar. "The company will be required to infuse Rs. 650 crore for this project, which will be spread across 300 acres of land. We have made necessary arrangements for land acquisition," said B Chandrasekar, vice president (sales), Winwind.

Winwind Power Energy Private Limited, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Finnish renewable energy company Winwind inaugurated its Rs 375-crore wind turbine manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu last month.

The initial production capacity of the facility is around 4 wind turbine generators (WTGs) per day and it plans to scale up to 8 WTGs per day within 18 months of production.

The manufacturing plant is 65 per cent localised. The company would outsource the manufacturing of gear boxes for its wind turbines to Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited in Maharashtra.
