The University of Hyderabad (UoH) is planning to start two new departments - Department of Education (DoE) and Department of Computers (DoC).
It would separate its computers division, which is now a part of the School of Mathematics and Computer/Information Sciences, and create the DoC. "The proposal has been approved and the change should happen in a year's time," Ramakrishna Ramaswamy, vice-chancellor of UoH, said addressing the media here.
The DoE is expected to start for the academic year 2014. "We are still working on the framework for the proposed DoE. Right now, we are developing course material and working on how we can integrate both learning and technology," he said.
Meanwhile, the university has advanced its admissions for the academic year 2013-14 to February from the earlier June to reduce the wait period for students. While online submission of applications will start from December 21 and go on till January 1, entrance examinations would be held from February 21-26.
The university is also seeking Rs 500 core funding under the 12th Five-Year Plan as against Rs 234 crore it received in the 11th Plan, according to CP Mohan Kumar, registrar.
Besides, it is starting two new courses - Master of Public Health in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Public Health and an Integrated Masters programme in Earth and Space Sciences -- from the next academic year.
