Virgin Atlantic is pulling out from London-Mumbai route from January-end 2015 two years after its relaunch of its service. The airline announced today it will withdraw from Mumbai from January-end. High capacity and low demand are cited as reasons behind the airline's decision to stop the service from next February. Virgin Atlantic Airlines relaunched London-Mumbai flight in October 2012. It flew on the route between 2005-2009 but withdrew due to competition.
"We have enjoyed great commitment from both our staff and customers in Mumbai. We worked hard to make the service a success, putting our newest aircraft wirh curting edge in-flighr experience for our passengers to enjoy. However high levels of capacity combined with stagnant market growth have unfortunately impacted our ability to be profitable and our revenues are insufficient to offset our costs," said airline's general manager Stephen King.
