COVID-19 curfew in Goa extended till Sept 13

The Goa government on Sunday extended the coronavirus-induced curfew till September 13.

 

In a notification issued here, the state administration announced the extension of the curfew till 7 am on September 13.

 

"As part of the curfew, the state government has retained the restrictions that are currently in force," a senior official said.

 

The COVID-19 curfew was first imposed in the state on May 9, and has since been extended regularly.

PM Modi to interact with healthcare workers, Covid vaccination beneficiaries in Himachal tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with healthcare workers and beneficiaries of the COVID-19 vaccination program in Himachal Pradesh on September 6 at 11 AM via video conferencing.

 

"Himachal Pradesh has set a benchmark in the fight against COVID-19 by giving the first dose of vaccine to all eligible people. Will have the privilege of interacting with many such beneficiaries and health workers of the state through video conferencing tomorrow at 11 am," informed PM Modi in a tweet in Hindi.

 

Himachal Pradesh has successfully covered its entire eligible population with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, the Prime Minister's Office said.

 

The efforts by the state included geographical prioritization to focus on difficult terrains, initiatives to ensure mass awareness, and door to door visits by ASHA workers, among others, informed an official release by the Prime Minister's office.

 

The state gave special attention to women, the elderly, divyangjans, industrial workers, daily wagers etc and undertook special campaigns like "Suraksha ki Yukti-Corona se Mukti" to attain this milestone.

 

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will be present during the event.

Uttar Pradesh reports one fresh Covid death, 18 cases

Uttar Pradesh Sunday reported one COVID-19 death and 18 cases, taking the overall numbers to 22,856 fatalities and 17,09,445 infections, according to an official statement. The lone death was reported from Rae Bareli, the UP government statement said.

 

Of the 18 fresh cases, three each were reported from Guatam Buddh Nagar and Jalaun, while two were from Rae Bareli.

 

In a 24-hour period, 31 patients recovered from the disease, taking the total number of patients discharged from health facilities in the state so far to 16,86,354. The count of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 235, the statement said. In the 24 hours, more than 2.34 lakh samples were tested in the state, taking the total number to 7.34 crore samples, the statement said.

'Vaccination on wheels' flagged-off in Delhi to inoculate labourers against Covid

AAP MLA Raghav Chadha on Sunday flagged-off the 'vaccination on wheels' van that aims to reach and inoculate labourers against COVID-19. The aim of the drive is to get 150 people vaccinated everyday without an appointment, a statement issued by the Aam Aadmi Party said.

 

Chadha said due to the unavailability of smartphones, labourers were not able to get appointment and reach their nearest vaccination centres.

 

"To get rid of this problem, the Arvind Kejriwal government has arranged this special van," he said.

C'garh sees 24 COVID-19 cases, over 19k samples tested

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 tally reached 10,04,635 on Sunday with the addition of 24 cases, while the death toll remained unchanged at 13,556, an official said.

 

The recovery count stood at 9,90,711 after 19 people were discharged from hospitals and 18 completed home isolation during the day, leaving the state with 368 active cases, he said.

 

"Raipur district reported four cases, taking the caseload to 1,57,886, including 3,139 deaths. Bilaspur recorded six cases and Jashpur three. With 19,489 samples examined during the day, the number of tests in the state went up to 1,25,02,880," the official said.

 

Chhattisgarh's coronavirus figures are as follows: Positive cases 10,04,635, new cases 24, death toll 13,556, recovered 9,90,711, active cases 368, tests today 19,489, Total tests 1,25,02,880.

79 new cases push Sikkim's COVID-19 tally to 30,242

Seventy-nine more people tested positive for COVID-19, taking Sikkim's tally to 30,242 on Sunday, a health bulletin said. The Himalayan state's coronavirus death toll remained unchanged at 373 as no fresh fatality was registered. The positivity rate stood at 11.8 per cent.

 

West Sikkim district recorded the highest number of new cases at 41, followed by East Sikkim (20), South Sikkim (15) and North Sikkim (three).

 

The state now has 967 active cases, while 28,617 people have recovered from the disease, and 285 patients have migrated to other states so far. The recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state stood at 95.5 per cent. Sikkim has tested over 2.34 lakh samples for COVID-19 so far, including 666 in the last 24 hours.

Gujarat sees 14 new Covid cases; over 4.8 lakh vaccinated

Gujarat on Sunday reported 14 COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 8,25,490, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,082, an official said. The discharge of 16 people from hospitals took the recovery count to 8,15,262, leaving the state with 146 active cases, he informed. Vadodara and Surat reported five cases each, and one case each was witnessed in Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar and Navsari. A government release said 4,80,410 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Sunday, which increased the number of doses administered so far in Gujarat to 4,91,03,453.

 

The COVID-19 tally in neighbouring Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu remained unchanged at 10,637 on Sunday, while the discharge of three people took the recovery count to 10,631, leaving the Union Territory, which has seen four deaths so far, with an active caseload of two.

 

Gujarat's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 8,25,490, new cases 14, death toll 10,082, discharged 8,15,262, active cases 146, people tested so far - figures not released.

Kerala reports 26,701 new Covid cases, 74 deaths

Kerala reported 26,701 new COVID-19 cases and 74 deaths in the last 24 hours. As per the office of the state health minister on Sunday, the total death toll mounted to 21,496 and the active caseload stands at 2,47,791. As many as 28,900 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking cumulative recoveries to 39,37,996. 1,55,543 samples were tested during the last 24 hours with a test positivity rate of 17.17 per cent.

 

Earlier, on September 4, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a press conference after holding a meeting to review the state's COVID-19 situation, confirmed that the state will continue with its night curfew and Sunday lockdowns.

J-K administration issues new COVID-19 guidelines, allows reopening of schools for classes 10, 12

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday allowed reopening of higher educational institutions and schools for students of classes 10 and 12 with certain conditions. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary A K Mehta. It was also decided to retain most of the COVID-19 containment guidelines, including night curfew.

 

In a series of measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on April 18 had ordered closure of all educational institutions, including universities and colleges, till further orders.

 

In an order issued after a review of the COVID-19 situation, Mehta, who is also the chairperson of the State Executive Committee (SEC), said classes for students of 12th standard would be permitted with in-person attendance not exceeding 50 per cent of capacity on a given day.

30 new Covid cases in Delhi, no death for 5th consecutive day

As many as 30 fresh Covid infections were reported in the last 24 hours, according to the health bulletin of the Delhi government Sunday. The cumulative caseload has reached 14,37,959 including 33 recoveries in the 24-hour period. According to the health bulletin on Sunday, no new death was recorded for the fifth consecutive day. The death toll stands at 25,082. A total of 14,12,526 people have been recovered from the disease so far.

 

The Covid positivity rate in Delhi was recorded at 0.05 per cent and the case fatality rate at 1.74 per cent.

 

The total number of COVID tests conducted in the national capital so far is 2,58,62,110, including 45,500 tests conducted in the last 24 hours. As many as 14,079,991 COVID vaccine doses have been administered in the national capital so far. Out of this, 1,00,25,201 beneficiaries received the single dose of the COVID vaccine while 40,54,790 people have received both shots.

Parameters to identify fake COVID-19 vaccine shared with states and UTs

The Centre has shared a set of parameters with all states and UTs to enable service providers and monitoring teams under the national COVID-19 vaccination programme to identify any fake COVID-19 vaccines so that they are not administered in the country.

 

This comes days in the backdrop of concerns flagged by the World Health Organization (WHO) over counterfeit/falsified Covishield vaccine being identified in the South-East Asia and Africa region of WHO.

 

Currently, the Serum Institute of India's Covishield, Bharat Biotech's Covaxin and Russian vaccine Sputnik V are being administered to eligible beneficiaries under the ongoing COVID-19 inoculation drive in the country.

 

"It was requested that the vaccines need to be carefully authenticated before use...the information on genuine COVID-19 vaccine labels and additional information of the COVID19 vaccines in use is being enclosed for reference of program managers and service providers under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program.

Jammu and Kashmir records 110 fresh Covid cases, no new death

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 110 fresh Covid cases on Sunday, taking the infection tally to 3,25,940 while the Union Territory registered no new death in the past 24 hours, officials said. Out of the fresh cases, 27 were from the Jammu division and 83 from the Kashmir division of the Union Territory, they said.

 

Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 57 cases followed by 13 cases in Budgam district.

 

There are 1,322 active cases in the Union Territory, while 3,20,208 patients have recovered from the infection so far, the officials said. The death toll due to the disease was 4,410 as no fresh fatality was reported in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the officials said there were 45 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the Union Territory as no fresh case was reported since last evening.

Telangana records 230 new COVID-19 cases

Telangana on Sunday recorded 230 new COVID-19 cases and one related fatality taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 6,59,543 and the total deaths to 3,884 respectively. A total of 50,636 samples were tested on Sunday. Cumulatively, the number of samples tested was 2,49,68,239. A total of 357 COVID-19 recoveries were reported on Sunday taking the total number to 6,50,114. The recovery rate and case fatality rate in the state was 98.57 per cent and 0.58 per cent, compared to the national average of 97.4 per cent and 1.3 per cent, the bulletin said.

Haryana directs VCs to continue conducting online classes till Oct 15

The Haryana government on Sunday directed vice-chancellors of residential universities to continue conducting online classes till October 15, modifying its earlier order to plan the reopening of institutes from the upcoming academic session.

 

COVID-19 induced curbs in the state were extended for a fortnight with the relaxations permitted earlier allowed to continue.

 

"The Mahamari Alert-Surakshit Haryana is extended for another fortnight, that is from September 6 (5 am onwards) to September 20 (till 5 am), along with guidelines to be implemented during this period issued vide earlier orders," an order by Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan on Sunday stated.

3 fresh COVID-19 cases take Ladakh's tally to 20,578

Ladakh's COVID-19 tally increased to 20,578 with three fresh cases, while the active caseload came down to 59 as 13 more patients recovered from the disease, officials said on Sunday.

 

All the fresh cases were reported from Leh district, they said.

 

So far, Ladakh has recorded 207 Covid-related deaths -- 149 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.

 

Seven patients were discharged from hospitals in Leh after recovering from COVID-19 and six in Kargil the previous day. With this, 20,312 patients have recovered till date in Ladakh, the officials said.

 

Of the 59 active cases in the union territory, 47 are in Leh and 12 in Kargil, they said.

Brazil bans use of Chinese vaccines made at unauthorised plant

Brazil has banned the distribution of millions of Chinese Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines as the plant in which they were made is not authorised by the Latin American country's health regulator.

 

In a statement on Saturday, ANVISA, a regulatory body of the Brazilian government, said it has "determined the precautionary interdiction of batches of CoronaVac vaccine, prohibiting the distribution and use of batches in the plant not approved by the Authorization for Emergency Use (AUE)."

Covid-19 recoveries edge out fresh cases in Arunachal

The Covid-19 recovery rate in Arunachal Pradesh improved to 98.07 per cent after 114 people were discharged in a single day, a senior health department official said on Sunday.

 

The northeastern state now has 762 active cases, and a total of 52,276 patients have so far recovered from the disease, he said. The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 143, followed by Lower Subansiri (104), West Kameng (52) and Lower Dibang Valley (50).

India cases: Latest updates

With 42,766 people testing positive for the novel coronavirus infection in day, India's infection tally rose to 3,29,88,673, while active cases registered an increase for the fifth consecutive day, the Union health ministry said on Sunday.

 

The Covid-19 death toll has climbed to 4,40,533, with 308 new fatalities, according to the ministry data updated at 8 am on Sunday. The active cases have increased to 4,10,048, comprising 1.24 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.42 per cent, the health ministry said.

 

An increase of 4,367 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. Less than 50,000 daily new cases are being reported for 70 consecutive days, the ministry said.

80% of Mumbai's adult population received at least 1 Covid-19 shot: BMC

A total of 1.3 lakh COVID-19 vaccines doses were administered in the Mumbai district on Saturday, said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.

 

According to BMC Commissioner, at least 80 per cent of eligible citizens of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) have taken at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Maharashtra reports 4,130 cases, 64 deaths

Maharashtra on Saturday reported 4,130 new coronavirus cases and 64 fatalities, the state health department said.

 

The infection tally in the state thus rose to 64,82,117 while the death toll reached 1,37,707. The number of recoveries rose to 62,88,851, with 2,506 patients discharged during the day. The state now has 52,025 active cases.

India administers over 680 million coronavirus vaccine doses so far

India has administered over 680 million COVID-19 vaccine doses so far since the rollout of the vaccination drive on January 16 this year, the Union Health Ministry informed on Saturday.

 

"In a landmark milestone, India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 68 Crore landmark milestone (68, 37, 29,058) today," the ministry's press release read.

Assam reports 10 more Covid deaths, 542 new cases

Assam on Saturday reported 542 new Covid-19 cases, 22 less than the previous day, with the tally increasing to 5,91,659, a bulletin issued by the National Health Mission said. Ten more fatalities due to the infection raised the death toll to 5,693, it said.

 

The number of active cases declined to 5,056 as against 5,158 recorded on the previous day. Golaghat district reported two fresh fatalities, while one each was recorded in Barpeta, Cachar, Hojai, Kamrup Metro, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Nagaon and Sonitpur.

 

At least 1,347 COVID-19 patients in the state have died due to some other reasons. Of the 542 fresh cases, 107 were reported from Kamrup Metro, 48 from Barpeta, 30 from Golaghat and 27 from Sonitpur.
