A recent IIHMR internal study observed as against a very high workforce requirement, the industry was able to place less than 10 per cent.
“With the role of private hospitals expected to go up, we see a huge demand for healthcare managers. The private healthcare industry is likely to grow seven-fold from the present $40 billion to $280 billion in 2020. A big part of it would come from the corporates,” said Biranchi N Jena, director, IIHMR.
The institute, he said, was offering postgraduate diploma programmes in health, hospital management and health information technology at its four campuses in the country. The Bengaluru campus is churning out 60 health management professionals every year. So far, it has trained 300 of them.
Speaking to mediapersons here today, Jena said the institute's students had been receiving good placement offers in the recent times. “The average annual salary package offered last year was Rs 5 lakh and the highest was Rs 12 lakh,” he said.
With respect to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, he said both the states would be requiring 10,000 hospital management professionals by 2020, while the present demand is at 2,000.
IIHMR has recently tied up with Netherlands-based Maastricht University’s Faculty of Health Management and Research (FHML) to provide global exposure and quality facilities to its students.
The MoU between the two institutes would cover innovative student-centred and outcome-based learning methodologies, research as well as exchange of faculty and students.
