Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union President Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested under the charge of sedition, has claimed he is a victim of conspiracy and has been falsely implicated.

Kumar, who has moved the Delhi High Court for bail, alleged that a doctored video was being circulated to falsely implicate him.

"It is alleged that the petitioner (Kanhaiya) raised slogans on the evening February 9 at JNU. However, the petitioner strenuously denies that he raised any slogan that would fall within the mischief of section 124 A (sedition) of IPC... The petitioner, however, submits that he is a victim of conspiracy where certain vested elements are seeking to fabricate evidence against him and circulate a doctored video which seeks to superimpose utterances that may have been made elsewhere by others, on him," the bail plea, filed by Kumar said.

Meanwhile, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhttacharya, who are also accused of sedition, were asked by the Delhi High Court to surrender and were not given any protection from arrest even as Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi warned the five accused students that all options were open to act against them if they fail to cooperate.

Tuesday also saw thousands of students from across the country hit Delhi's streets demanding justice for Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula and protesting the JNU row with Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal joining them in criticising the Narendra Modi government for "crushing" dissent.

Students marched from central Delhi's Jhandewalan to Jantar Mantar where they held a rally which was addressed by Vemula's mother.
