Cristiano Ronaldo said in a cryptic social media post that his dream of winning the World Cup with Portugal has ended, while stopping short of announcing his retirement from international duty.
The 37-year-old Ronaldo left the field in tears after Portugal lost 1-0 to Morocco in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
In his first comments after the elimination, Ronaldo said Sunday that it was time to take stock without saying explicitly if he wants to carry on being available for Portugal after 19 years in the national team.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Sunday underlined the need for highlighting the extraordinary contributions made by tribal communities in various fields for the development of the country which he said largely remained unrecognised.
Speaking at a function, the senior Sangh leader also said great tribal freedom fighters who had been forgotten, are of late being praised, recognised and getting their due share of respect.
But the contributions of tribal people in other fields need to be highlighted and documented, he said.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday revealed that he had broken alliance with the BJP on the advice of two persons - JD-U national president Lalan Singh and cabinet minister Bijendra Yadav.
"When the things went wrong while we were in NDA, Lalan Singh and Bijendra Yadav suggested to me to break the alliance. We have taken the suggestions from our party workers from the entire country and they have suggested that I break the alliance with BJP and go with the seven party alliance to form the government," he said, while addressing the gathering of JD-U workers on the second day of the open session of the party in Sri Krishna Memorial Hall at the Gandhi Maidan.
"Now, we have a seven party government in Bihar and we will jointly develop the state. Lalan Singh is the national President of the party and I ask all of you to support him," Nitish Kumar said.

Governments across the world and internet forums have lagged behind in rulemaking for big technology players for their innovations that can cause harm to society, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Sunday.
Speaking at the India Internet Governance Forum (IGF) hosted by FICCI, Chandrasekhar further said the internet, which has been a force for good, has also increasingly begun to represent risk, user harm and criminality.
"For too long governments of the world and indeed, IGF and most forums have lagged behind these big private platforms, big tech platforms in terms of the do's and don'ts and the rulemaking that are required.
"We treated them for very long as innovators and innovations rather than deal with them as innovations as well as those innovations potentially being able to cause harm and create other disruptions to society and people," Chandrasekhar said.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda", the chairman of Nepal's ruling coalition partner - CPN-Maoist Centre, said on Sunday that his party has the key to form the next government, as the ruling alliance leaders intensified negotiations for a power-sharing deal.
"Our party is one of the key actors in national politics," Prachanda said while addressing an event organised here by the Press Centre Nepal, the working journalists' association affiliated to the CPN-MC.
Prachanda also claimed that his party had the power to command 60 seats in the 275-member House of Representatives (HoR). The CPN-MC has bagged altogether 32 seats, 18 through direct election and 14 through proportionate representation method.
"Maoist Centre is now a key force in Nepal that even the international power cannot influence here without knowing its position," the former two-time prime minister said.

Many passengers continued to experience long waiting hours at the Delhi airport on Sunday.
Some passengers took to social media and also shared pictures of crowd at Terminal 3 (T3) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
In response to a tweet by a passenger, Delhi airport said that it has deployed officials on the ground to assist the passengers and minimise any inconvenience.
"Please be assured that passenger experience is paramount for us and we always strive to enhance our flyers experience. Also, we have duly noted the remarks and have shared it with the concerned agency. Further, you may also share your direct feedback with CISF headquarters...," Delhi airport said in the tweet.

A massive fire had broken out at a scrap site near Sector 93 in Noida but the situation is now under control, officials say.
Dense smoke could be seen billowing into the sky from the blaze that broke out around 6.30 pm at Gejha village.
Chief fire officer Pradeep Kumar Choubey said five water tenders along with firefighters had been deployed.
"No person, including any firefighters, got hurt in the incident. The fire was largely doused by 8.30 pm and the situation brought under control," Choubey told PTI.

Twitter came back to life after suffering a brief outage globally, including in India, on Sunday as Elon Musk said "Twitter is speeding up".
Website outage tracker Downdetector reported several outages across the globe as users had issues with page loading.
The outage hit both the Twitter mobile app and the desktop version.
"Yes, Twitter is Down for some people. Not Working on Jio But Working on Airtel," tweeted one user.
"Elon musk try to fix twitter when twitter is down," another posted.
Twitter or Musk were yet to comment on the outage.

Newly elected Aam Aadmi Party MLA Bhupat Bhayani on Sunday denied speculation he would join the BJP in Gujarat but said he was proud of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bhayani won from the Visavadar constituency by beating BJP's Harshad Ribadiya.
"I am not at all unhappy with AAP and I have not taken any decision about joining the BJP as of now. I will decide only after meeting my workers and people. As of now, I am with AAP," Bhayani told reporters in Gandhinagar ahead of the swearing-in of the BJP government scheduled for Monday.
The BJP won a landslide mandate in the polls by winning 156 seats in the Gujarat assembly. The AAP won five seats in the 182-member House.

Russia is said to have offered to help India overcome the oil price cap imposed by the western nations on Moscow.
In order not to depend on the ban on insurance services and tanker chartering in the European Union and Britain, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak has offered India cooperation on leasing and building large-capacity ships, the reports say quoting the Russian embassy in New Delhi.
Novak reportedly met Indian ambassador to Moscow Pavan Kapoor on Friday.
The G7 nations, the European Union(EU) and Australia last week agreed to a $60 per barrel price cap on Russian seaborne crude oil, as part of its sanctions on Russia, owing to its invasion of Ukraine.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and his Congress colleague Sachin Pilot, who have been locked in a turf war, flew together to Shimla to attend the swearing-in of Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu as Himachal Pradesh chief minister on Sunday, with the party asserting they were "united".
All party leaders are "united" and the two leaders travelling together was not just for photographs, Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh told reporters here.
Asked whether it was an effort at unity, he said this is not an attempt but a reality. "We are one."
"Both leaders are assets for us. One is experienced, is at high position in the organisation and in the state. Sachin Pilot is young and energetic. The people and the organisation need both of them. What you are seeing is not hypocrisy or a show," Ramesh said.

Birla attended the 'Samvidhan Katha' programme organised by Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanti Samaroh Samiti in Jaipur on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Birla said, "Unless women are educated, change cannot happen in this society. If India has to become a developed country, then every woman will have to be educated. Today the women of India are leading in all fields whether it is education, science or the social sector."

The Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia is being restored by India because our civilisation is not limited to India, but is spread across countries, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Sunday.
Addressing the Kashi Tamil Sangamam on the subject 'contribution of temples in society and nation building' being held here, Jaishankar said, "There are temples not only in India, not only in the Indian subcontinent, but in many regions beyond."
"I had gone with the vice president to see the biggest temple in the world -- the Angkor Wat temple complex. Today, we are restoring and renovating the temples in Angkor Wat. These are contributions which we are making outside because the civilisation of India has gone beyond India," he said.

As assembly elections in Karnataka are due in the next few months, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has called a meeting of the party's senior leaders from the state on Monday in New Delhi to discuss the preparations and the strategy for the polls.
According to a party functionary, 14 leaders from the state, including Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar, and state legislature party leader Siddaramaiah, will be attending the meeting at the AICC office.
Amid signs of factionalism within the state unit, Kharge is likely to instruct the party leaders to work in a united manner for ensuring victory, the functionary said.

The state forest department officials have successfully trapped a male leopard in an installed cage at the Deolali area in Nashik, forest department officials say.
Range forest officer Vivek Bhadane said, "Ten days ago, we received a complaint about a Leopard being spotted in Deolali area of Nashik. We laid a trap on Saturday, and captured an adult male leopard."
"The leopard has been sent to a nursery at Gangapur in Nashik," he said.
Maharashtra's Nashik city forest divisional officer Vivek Bhadane said that the forest department has succeeded in imprisoning the leopard in a cage built near an army school in the military area.

Aviation regulator DGCA has issued 1,081 commercial pilot licenses in 2022, which is the highest for any year in the last one decade, according to the official data.
The record issuance of Commercial Pilot Licenses (CPLs) also comes at a time when the country's civil aviation sector is recovering at a fast pace after being hit by the coronavirus pandemic and the domestic air traffic is inching towards the pre-pandemic level.
A senior official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) told PTI on Sunday that 1,081 CPLs have been issued in 2022 till December 6 and the number is likely to cross 1,100 by the year-end.
This is also the highest for any year since 2011, as per the data. In 2014, the number of CPLs issued stood at 896 while the count was at 862 in 2021.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that her party wants to implement the promises made to the people of Himachal Pradesh as soon as possible.
Speaking to ANI after new CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu's oath ceremony, Priyanka Gandhi said, "We are very happy and we want to implement whatever we have promised as soon as possible."
Mukesh Agnihotri, former leader of the opposition, also took oath as the deputy chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.
Governor RV Arlekar administered the oath to them at a formal function at Ridge Maidan in Shimla.

A cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 assault rifles, was recovered by the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday along the India-Pakistan International Border in Punjab, an officer said.
The recovery was made from Chandi Wala village in Ferozepur district when BSF troopers were on an "area domination patrol" and observed some freshly dug soil.
A packet containing two AK-47 rifles, two pistols and 40 bullets were found by the personnel, the officer said.

The Tata group-owned Air India has put in place an ethics governance structure and is also establishing committees at the apex and regional levels to bolster the ethics culture at the airline, according to an internal document.
The apex ethics committee has been set up at the senior leadership level with Air India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson as its head and includes the airline's Chief Ethics Counsellor, Chief Human Resources Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer as its members.
This committee has the mandate to formalise ethics-related guidelines, approve policies and procedures related to ethics, and will be the final escalation point for the regional ethics committees.
Tata Group regained ownership of Air India from the central government in January this year.

The Kerala high court has proposed an extension of the time of worship for devotees at the Sabarimala temple by an hour on busy days.
The Devaswom Bench of the high court mooted the proposal after convening a special sitting on Sunday. The court had asked the board to consider extending the time of worship after taking suo motu cognisance of a recent rush of devotees at the Sabarimala temple, which left quite a few of them injured.
The bench of justices Anil K Narendran and PG Ajithkumar also dircted the Pathanamthitta district collector and the police to control the crowd at the Sabarimala shrine.

The Congress is best placed to be the "pole" around which a non-BJP front can be built for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, senior party leader P Chidambaram said on Sunday and asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party does not have much appeal outside Delhi with the exception of Haryana and Punjab.
Chidambaram also stressed that there were lessons to be learnt by the Congress from the Gujarat loss, saying there is no such thing as a "silent" campaign in a hard-fought election.
In an interview with PTI, he also said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) played spoiler in Gujarat, like it did earlier in Goa and Uttarakhand.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bhupendra Patel will take oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for a second straight term in Gandhinagar on Monday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries, BJP leaders said on Sunday.
Patel will be administered the oath as the 18th chief minister by Governor Acharya Devvrat at a function to be held at the Helipad Ground near the new Secretariat in Gandhinagar at 2 PM. Besides the prime minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and chief ministers of other BJP-ruled states are set to attend the swearing-in ceremony, BJP sources said.
Along with Patel, some new ministers are also expected to take the oath.

India cannot afford to miss the fourth industrial revolution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, stressing that such "opportunities" may not come again and again.
Addressing a gathering after launching developmental projects in Maharashtra, PM Modi said India had already missed out on making the most of the industrial revolutions in the past.
"When the first industrial revolution came, India could not take benefit from it. We lagged behind in the second and third industrial revolution, but today when it's time for the fourth industrial revolution, India cannot miss it. A long-term vision is pivotal for stable growth and development. India cannot miss the fourth industrial revolution, opportunity won't come again," PM Modi said.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations will begin from February 15, as per the tentative date notified by the board. The official datesheet has not been released yet.
CBSE released an official notice stating that practical exams for classes 10 and 12 would start from January 1, 2023.
Students can visit the CBSE website for detailed information.
Class 10 examinations of ICSE will start from February 27 and examinations for Class 12 will commence from February 13.

Darkness has gripped Ukraine's Odesa as over 1.5 million people in the port city were left without electricity amid dipping temperatures after the energy facilities were hit, Al Jazeera reported.
During his nightly address, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the situation is very difficult in the port city of Odesa as the energy facilities might take months to get repaired.
According to the Ukrainian authorities, Odesa was left without electricity after two energy facilities in the area were attacked by drones built in Iran during the continuing conflict, causing damage to the energy infrastructure. According to officials, during the early hours of Saturday, Russian strikes struck important transmission lines and machinery, reported Al Jazeera.
Odesa, which is the largest port city of Ukraine had a population of more than one million before Russia invaded the country on February 24 this year.

Speaking on the importance of investments in infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday gave the examples of Singapore and the Gulf nations which have become global economic centres by the virtue of their thought-out investments in infrastructure.
"Politics of shortcuts will never help anybody. What is needed is a long-term and holistic model of development which empowers people," Prime Minister Modi said in Nagpur while inaugurating 11 projects on Sunday.
He said, "No country can run with shortcuts. Apart from working with sustainable development and sustainable solutions, a long-term vision is very important for the progress of the country."
