Iran reports 11,844 new Covid-19 cases

Iran's Health Ministry on Monday reported 11,844 new Covid-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 5,796,659.

 

The pandemic claimed 181 lives in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll in the country to 124,256, Xinhua news agency reported, citing an update by Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

 

A total of 5,333,304 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 4,693 remain in intensive care units, according to the ministry.

 

By Monday, 48,956,693 Iranians have received their first doses of Covid-19 vaccine, and 25,156,987 of them have taken two jabs.

Over 1cr people in Odisha fully vaccinated against Covid

The Odisha government on Monday said it has achieved a significant milestone in the inoculation drive against COVID-19 as over one core people in the state have so far received both doses of the vaccines.

 

Altogether, 1,00,45,205 beneficiaries have received the second jab of the vaccines till 6 pm on October 18, he said.

 

More than 3.43 crore people have been inoculated in the state with around 2.43 crore of them having received the first dose of the vaccines.

 

Taking to Twitter, the Health and Family Welfare department said, "Happy to share that #Odisha has achieved another milestone in #COVID19Vaccination with one crore citizens fully vaccinated with two doses of @COVID19 vaccines."

Chhattisgarh logs 27 cases, no new death; active tally at 189

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,05,681 on Monday with the addition of 27 new cases, while no fresh death due to the infection was reported in the state, a health department official said.

 

The state's COVID-19 death toll remained unchanged at 13,570, he said. The number of recoveries rose to 9,91,922 after 9 people were discharged from hospitals, while 12 others completed their home isolation during the day, the official said. Chhattisgarh now has 189 active cases.

Assam records 298 new COVID-19 cases, 7 deaths

With 298 more people testing positive for COVID-19 in Assam on Monday, the state's overall infection tally has increased to 6,06,766, a health bulletin said. The death toll due to the disease rose to 5,957 with seven more fatalities being recorded in the last 24 hours.

 

The north-eastern state had registered 205 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths on Sunday.

 

The 298 new cases were detected out of 41,043 tests conducted during the day with the daily positivity rate at 0.73 per cent against 1.06 per cent on Sunday. Cumulative tests have surpassed two crores with the state having conducted 2,42,02,721 clinical examinations thus far for detecting COVID-19. Active cases in Assam increased by 25 in 24 hours. The number of coronavirus active cases in the state currently is 2,114, the bulletin said.

BMC allows reopening of cinema halls, drama theatres from Oct 22 with COVID-19 norms

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday allowed reopening of cinema halls, drama theatres and auditoriums for organising cultural programmes in the metropolis from October 22 with COVID-19 protocols like use of face masks and social distancing.

 

In a circular, the civic body said the SOPs (standard operating procedures) related to reopening of these establishments, which were issued by the Maharashtra government through three separate orders, will be applicable in areas falling under the BMC's jurisdiction.

 

Earlier last week, the government had issued SOPs for reopening of cinema halls, drama theatres and auditoriums for cultural events at 50 per cent capacity across the state. The BMC circular highlighted that it will be mandatory for people visiting these establishments to follow social distancing norms, mask mandate and other measures announced by the state government from time to time.

Haryana reports no COVID-19 death, 16 new cases

Haryana reported no Covid-related death and 16 new infections on Monday, pushing the infection tally to 7,71,092.

 

According to the health department's daily bulletin, the death toll remained unchanged at 10,049.

 

Meanwhile, among the districts, nine cases were reported from Gurgaon, it said.

 

The state has a total of 100 active cases while 7,60,917 Covid patients have recovered so far.

 

The state's recovery rate is 98.68 per cent, the bulletin said.

15 new Covid cases, zero death in Delhi; positivity rate at 0.03%

The national capital recorded 15 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest since March 28 last year, and zero death on Monday, as the positivity rate dipped to 0.03 per cent, according to data shared by the health department here.

 

Delhi had reported nine cases on March 28 last year. The daily case count had dropped to 17 on September 13, with no death being recorded on that day, while the positivity rate was 0.04 per cent, according to official figures.

 

Two fatalities due to COVID-19 have been recorded so far this month in Delhi, on October 2 and October 10.

 

Only five Covid-related fatalities were reported last month, one each on September 7, 16 and 17, and two on September 28, they said.

 

The low number of single-day infections could also be due to the lower number of tests conducted on Sunday. A total of 44,739 tests -- 39,172 RT-PCR and 5,567 rapid antigen -- were conducted a day ago, the bulletin said.
