Farmers to block KMP Expressway on Saturday: Farmer union leader

Protesting farmers will block the Kundli Manesar Palwal Expressway on March 6, a Samyukta Kisan Morcha leader said on Monday, according to PTI. Balbir Singh Rajewal said that a call has been given to farmers camping at three Delhi border points to block the KMP Expressway from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday. Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at the Delhi border points --- Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur --- demanding a complete repeal of three farm laws enacted in September last year.

"We will block the KMP expressway on March 6 as part of the intensification of the ongoing protest," Rajewal told PTI. The 136-km Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway or the western peripheral expressway was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018.

Centre releases Rs 1.04 trillion GST compensation shortfall to states since Oct

The Centre has released Rs 1.04 trillion to states in four months since October 2020, to meet GST compensation shortfall, the finance ministry said on Monday.

 

The ministry on Monday released the 18th weekly instalment of Rs 4,000 crore to 23 states and 3 Union territories with Legislative Assembly (Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir and Puducherry), taking the total amount released so far under the special borrowing window set up in October last year to Rs 1.04 lakh crore.

Gujarat local bodies polls: Counting of votes on Tuesday

Counting of votes for polls to 81 municipalities, 31 districtpanchayat and 231 taluka panchayat will be held on Tuesday.

 

The polling took place on Sunday with municipalities recording a voter turnout of 58.82 per cent, while the figure was 65.80 for the district panchayats and 66.60 per cent for taluka panchayats.

 

The final figures were released by the State Election Commission on Monday.

Rs 77,146 crore worth bids made for telecom spectrum on Day 1 of auction: Govt

India's first auction of spectrum in five years attracted Rs 77,146 crore of bids on the opening day on Monday with Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea putting in bids.

 

Over 2,250 MHz of spectrum, that carry telecom signals, in seven bands worth nearly Rs 4 lakh crore at reserve or start price, was offered for bidding in the auction that began on Monday.

ED attaches Rs 65 crore worth assets in Naresh Jain hawala case

The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth over Rs 65 crore in connection with its money laundering probe against alleged hawala dealer Naresh Jain, the agency said on Monday.

 

The attachment stems from a probe against Jain in a case linked to over Rs 560-crore illegal remittances which allegedly involved routing and re-routing of funds through various shell entities incorporated in India and other countries.

 

The movable and immovable properties attached provisionally under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) consist of residential premises, project land and industrial plots in Delhi, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

GST collections surpass Rs 1.1 trillion-mark for 3rd straight month in Feb

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of February 2021 is Rs 1.13 trillion, the government said on Monday.

 

Of the total gross collections, CGST is about Rs 21,092 crore, SGST is Rs 27,273 crore, IGST is Rs 55,253 crore (including Rs 24,382 crore collected on import of goods) and Cess is Rs 9,525 crore (including Rs 660 crore collected on import of goods).

 

The government has settled Rs 22,398 crore to CGST and Rs 17,534 crore to SGST from IGST as regular settlement. In addition, Centre has also settled Rs 48,000 crore as IGST ad-hoc settlement in the ratio of 50:50 between Centre and States/UTs. READ ON...

PM Modi says farmers should get more avenues to sell crops

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday emphasised on farmers getting more avenues to sell crops and said a food processing revolution was needed in the country for value addition to farm produce and to realise better prices.

 

Addressing a webinar on effective implementation of Budget provisions regarding the Agriculture Ministry, he underlined the need for increased participation of private players in the farm sector, including in research and development (R&D) work. Without making any direct reference to the three new farm reform laws or to the three-month-old agitation by farmers, Modi said there is a need for expanding options for the country's farming community to sell agri produce.

 

"Today the need of the hour is that farmers of the country get more and more options to sell their produce," he said.

Spectrum auctions underway; radiowaves valued at Rs 3.92 trillion up for bidding

Spectrum auction in India began on Monday, with 2,251.25 megahertz (MHz) radiowaves valued at Rs 3.92 lakh crore up for bidding, according to a PTI report.

 

The auction entailing seven frequency bands for mobile services 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz bands is currently underway. The current auction does not include frequencies in 3,300-3,600 Mhz bands that were identified for 5G services, which will happen later.

 

Successful bidders can pay entire bid amount in one go (upfront), or exercise an option to pay a certain amount (25 per cent for spectrum won in 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz bands or 50 per cent for spectrum won in 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz bands) upfront with the remaining amount in a maximum up to 16 EMIs, after a moratorium of two years.

The Delhi High Court on Monday adjourned till April 19 hearing on petition against WhatsApp's new privacy policy after the Central government sought more time saying that they are examining the issue.

 

A single-judge Bench of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva asked the Centre to file a status report and listed the matter for April 19.

 

The Court noted that the government is examining the issue and granted more time to the Centre to respond on the matter. The Delhi High Court on Monday granted more time to the Centre to file the status report in a petition seeking direction for an injunction against the updated privacy policy by WhatsApp. Notably, WhatsApp had asked users to either give their consent to sharing data with Facebook or lose their accounts after February 8. The policy was, however, put on hold till May 15 due to a massive backlash by the users, IANS reported.

 

The petition filed by Advocate Chaitanya Rohilla has claimed that the new policy violates the Right to Privacy guaranteed under the Constitution and gives a 360-degree profile into a person's online activity without any government oversight. During the course of proceedings, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva granted the government more time and adjourned the matter to April 19. The court refused to issue notice to the respondents in the matter.
