Amid intense poll battle in West Bengal, actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty hit out at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government over its 'poribortan' slogan, stating that there was "no change in the state and the slogan was just a lie".

 

He said it is BJP's motto that there will be a change in the state and no violence will take place.

Continuing his attack on the ruling Left and the Opposition Congress-led UDF, Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Friday described the two fronts as twins of misgovernance, corruption and political violence, among others.

 

"UDF and LDF are twins.They are twins of misgovernance, corruption, political violence, communalism, casteism, cronyism, nepotism and more," Modi said addressing his second election rally in Kerala on Friday.

 

Citing the alliance between the Congress and Left parties in West Bengal, he said:"The political picture in West Bengal is clear to everyone.Election after election, Congress and Left are getting closer.The logical step after such closeness is a full merger of Congress and the Left. They can call the new party CCP-Comrade Congress Party."

Stones pelted at Rakesh Tikait's car in Rajasthan's Alwar district

Some people threw stones at a cavalcade of farmer leader Rakesh Tikait damaging his car's rear windshield when he was going to address a rally in Rajasthan's Alwar district on Friday, PTI reported.

 

Tikait was not in his car when the stones were pelted at his cavalcade, Bhiwadi Superintendent of Police Ram Murti Joshi said, adding no one was injured in the incident.

 

Stones were pelted at the cavalcade when it reached Tatarpur chauraha on its way to Tikait's second rally venue, he said, adding the farmer leader addressed two rallies in the district on Friday. Police have detained four persons, including a student leader in this connection, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday attacked the Left government in Kerala for its action against Ayyappa devotees during Sabarimala protests, saying they tried to "destabilise" sacred places and that devotees were not criminals.

 

The Ayyappa devotees, who should have been welcomed with flowers, were lathi-charged, Modi said bringing up the Sabarimala women entry issue at an election rally at Konni in Pathnamthitta district, near the famous Lord Ayyappa shrine.

 

The state had witnessed violent protests after the LDF government decided to implement the 2018 Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all ages to offer prayers at the shrine. Rightwing outfits had staged protests against the government's decision to implement the verdict.

Stalin on Friday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of "colluding" with officials to conduct raids on DMK functionaries after Income Tax searched premises of his daughter Senthamarai, and asserting that his party cannot be intimated by such threats.

 

Addressing a poll programme at Jayankondam in Ariyalur, Stalin said: "Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Madurai yesterday night. He conducted meetings with IT officials to conduct raid on the premises of DMK functionaries." He said that 30 IT officials had conducted raids at his daughter's residence and 100 policemen were deployed outside.

TMC complains of 'partisan behaviour' by central forces, BJP counters Mamata violated model code of conduct

The Trinamool Congress on Friday complained to the Election Commission of partisan behaviour by central police forces in favour of its rival BJP, while the saffron party made a counter- complaint that Chief Minister Mamata Benerjee had violated the model code of conduct by being inside a polling booth in Nandigram for two hours on polling day.

 

A high level Trinamool Congress delegation, led by Yashwant Sinha, former Cabinet minister and now TMC vice president and state minister Subrata Mukherjee, met the Chief Electoral Officer Aariz Aftab with its complaint alleging central police forces acted with partiality in favour of the BJP at certain polling centers.

Soon afterwards, a BJP delegation led BJP leader Sishir Bajoria and former governor Tathagata Roy told the Chief Electoral Officer that the chief minister's presence inside the booth for two hours disrupted the polling process and was against the model code of conduct.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday raked up the famed Sabarimala temple issue and slammed the way the Pinarayi Vijayan government took on innocent devotees of Lord Ayyappa when they were beaten with lathis.

 

Modi, who is on his second trip to Kerala to campaign for the BJP candidates, reached Konni, near here and was greeted by a mammoth crowd. He began his speech by chanting 'Swamiye Sharenem Ayyappa' a few times and it was greeted by a huge applause.

 

"I am really happy to be in the land blessed by Lord Ayyappa because those devotees who arrive here come after observing 41 days strict vrithem (penance) which makes this place blessed. From Ayyappa we learned how to do good for all," said Modi.
