Secure the leadership of Bihar with Nitish: J P Nadda

BJP chief JP Nadda said on Sunday that the Nitish Kumar government took care of the people of Bihar amid the Covid-19 pandemic, asserting that it is important that the leadership of the state is secured with him.

 

Addressing an election rally at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Gaya, Nadda listed the development works done by the NDA government at the Centre in the last six years in the state.

 

"Nitish Kumar took care of the people during the Covid-19 pandemic. Financial assistance was also provided by his government to those outside the state," he said.

 

"Leadership of India is secured in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it is important that the leadership of Bihar is secured with Nitish Kumar," he added.

Congress forms committees for Bihar polls; Surjewala named chairman of key panel

The Congress on Sunday formed various panels for the upcoming Bihar assembly polls with party general secretary Randeep Surjewala named chairman of the election management and coordination committee.

 

Mohan Prakash was made the convenor of the 14-member election management and coordination committee. The panel includes senior leaders like Meira Kumar, Tariq Anwar, Shatrughan Sinha, Kirti Azad, Shakeel Ahmed and Sanjay Nirupam.

 

Congress president Sonia Gandhi also approved the setting up of the publicity committee, media coordination committee, public meeting and logistics committee, legal committee and office management committee for the Bihar elections, a party statement said. Subodh Kumar has been appointed the convenor of the publicity committee, while Jaeya Mishra was named the co-convenor of the panel.

GST Council to discuss compensation issue for third time in a row on Monday

The GST Council in its meeting on Monday is likely to discuss the suggestion of non-BJP ruled states of setting up a ministerial panel to develop consensus on the issue of compensation, sources said.

 

The Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and comprising of state finance ministers, will for the third time in a row discuss the issue of funding the shortfall of Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue of states.

 

While some opposition ruled states are demanding that a Group of Ministers be set up to arrive at a decision on the mechanism for funding compensation shortfall, BJP ruled states, which have already opted for the borrowing option given by the Centre, are of the view that they should be given a go ahead so that they can get money quickly. Bihar polls: Nitish Kumar announces JDU's '7 Nischay part-2' for development, self-reliance

Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced Janata Dal United's (JDU's) "7 Nischay part-2" plan for the State's development and making it self-reliant in the coming years. Kumar said the "7 Nischay part-2" is in continuation with the earlier set of promises made to the public during the ongoing National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule in the State. The CM's tweet enlists the promises, which include imparting technical education to the youth and promoting entrepreneurship, made to the people of the state.

 

Creating a centre for excellence for promoting quality of training in ITI and polytechnic institutions, setting up district wise mega-skill centres for giving job oriented training, tool rooms and training centres in each division and a new department for skill development and entrepreneurship will also be set up. The government will also provide 50 per cent grants, up to a maximum of Rs 3 lakhs, for setting up a new business and on loans of up to Rs 7 lakhs, grants of seven per cent will be given by the government.

The Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust, established by the family of the 2012 Delhi gangrape vicitm, has appealed to political parties to not give tickets for the upcoming Bihar elections to those who have committed crimes against women, according to a PTI report. In a statement, the Trust said political parties without indulging in vote bank politics should choose candidates with clean backgrounds for the assembly elections due next month in the eastern state.

 

"We request that no one having a background of committing crime against women must be given a ticket. If political parties keep that in mind and not vote bank politics then not only those candidates with a clean background will reach state assembly but also respect towards women will increase," it said in a statement.

J P Nadda arrives in Patna, set to address first rally ahead of Assembly polls

BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda on Sunday arrived in Patna to address his first election rally in poll-bound Bihar. Soon after his arrival, the BJP chief first visited Mahavir temple to offer prayer and seek blessings ahead of his first election rally. He performed rituals and accepted prasad from the priest. Nadda was seen covering his face with a mask as a precautionary measure to combat COVID-19.

 

Accompanied by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi, the BJP chief was welcomed and garlanded by party leaders. He is scheduled to address a rally in Gandhi Maidan of Bodhgaya at 2 pm today.
