Jaishankar hopes to have serious discussions on trade issues with Biden admin

There was a fairly serious negotiation between India and the Trump administration on resolving the outstanding trade issues as well as to clinch a trade deal, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday while hoping to have talks over it with the Biden dispensation.

The external affairs minister said the focus of the talks was to address the "differences" before moving towards "something bigger".

Participating in an interactive session at the annual general meeting of industry body FICCI, Jaishankar said the US economy was largely a "complementary" one and that there was no fundamental clash of interests" between the two sides though there are some areas of overlap.

Trump loyalists converging again on Washington over election

Supporters of President Donald Trump are returning to Washington for a pair of rallies to back his desperate efforts to subvert the election that he lost.

 

The rallies Saturday come a month after a pro-Trump demonstration that drew at least 10,000 people to the capital. That day began with Trump thrilling supporters when his motorcade passed by and ended with scattered clashes between his loyalists and local activists near Black Lives Matter Plaza near the White House.

 

Saturday's rallies are meant as a show of force just two days before the Electoral College meets to formally elect Democrat Joe Biden as the next president. Trump refuses to concede the election, citing baseless claims of fraud.

AstraZeneca to buy Alexion for $39 billion to expand in immunology

Britain's AstraZeneca has agreed to buy US drugmaker Alexion Pharmaceuticals for $39 billion in cash and shares to bolster its positions in immunology and rare diseases.

 

AstraZeneca, one of the frontrunners in the drugs industry's search for a Covid-19 vaccine, said on Saturday that Alexion shareholders would receive $60 in cash and 2.1243 AstraZeneca American Depositary Shares (ADSs) for each Alexion share.

 

Based on a reference average ADR price of $54.14, that implies a total price of $175 per share.

US gaming platform Roblox to delay IPO until next year

US gaming platform Roblox Corp has put off its planned initial public offering (IPO) until next year as it works with advisers to improve the process to benefit employees and investors, the company told employees in a memo seen by Reuters.

 

"We've seen companies take innovative approaches to creating a more market-based relationship between investors and companies," Roblox Chief Executive David Baszucki said in the memo on Friday.

 

"We've decided to take this opportunity to work with our advisors to see how we can make such improvements."

 

Baszucki said the company expects to list early next year. The San Mateo, California-based firm had filed to raise $1 billion through an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange and was expected to join a year-end IPO wave.
