The Congress on Sunday claimed that satellite imagery shows China has installed missile sites on the eastern borders at Naku La and Doka La, posing a threat to India's security, and demanded that the government take the nation into confidence on the issue.
Addressing a joint virtual press conference, Congress leaders Rajiv Shukla and Gaurav Gogoi said the government should discuss the issue during the Monsoon session of Parliament and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should respond to the concerns of all.
Government sources maintained that the armed forces were keeping a close watch on activities at the border.

Over 600 villages in 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh have been affected by floods, with the Sharda and the Saryu rivers flowing above the danger mark at some places in the state, a government official said on Sunday.
The deluge-hit districts in the state are Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Ballia, Barabanki, Basti, Deoria, Farrukhabad, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Lakhimpur Khiri, Kushinagar, Mau, Sant Kabir Nagar and Sitapur.
Relief Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said the flood situation in the state is improving. Of 690 villages hit by the deluge, 299 villages are completely flooded, he said.

Digital onboarding for loans will increase to 55-75 per cent of the total credit disbursement in the next five years from about 20 per cent now, a financial technology expert has said.
Between 2015 and 2020, around 20 per cent of credit disbursements were technology-driven and were extremely successful in retail and small business loans, said Akhil Handa, head fintech, partnerships & mobile banking and digital lending department, Bank of Baroda.

Former RSS idealogue K N Govindacharya has told the Delhi High Court that the presence of groups like 'bois locker room' indicate Facebook's "failure in tackling fake news, hate speech and illegal criminal content" on its social media platform.
The submission by Govindacharya has been made in his reply to Facebook's claims in the high court that it has put in place measures like community standards, third party fact checkers, reporting tools and artificial intelligence to detect and prevent the spread of inappropriate or objectionable content like hate speech and fake news.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday asserted that the fight against encephalitis is in its last phase in Gorakhpur and its surrounding areas and that the disease will be eradicated in the region in two years.
He also said that the state has taken several steps to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
"The region is in the last phase of its fight against encephalitis and in two years, the disease, which was the cause of death of a huge number of people for the last 40 years, will be eradicated from the Gorakhpur-Basti comissionary (divisions), if efforts undertaken in the last three years continue," Adityanath told reporters here.

The board of Coal India Ltd has approved creating an additional board level post in the PSU and its subsidiaries.
According to a Coal India report, the post of Director (Business Development) will be created to identify and develop new business opportunities.
"The board of directors...had approved creation of board level post of Director (Business Development) in CIL (Coal India) and its subsidiaries as per Companies Act, 2013, Listing Regulations and DPE guideline," the world's largest coal miner said in its latest report.

The Congress' Rajasthan in-charge and national general secretary Ajay Maken hit out at the BJP on Sunday, accusing it of "killing democracy" using "money power and misusing investigative agencies".
During his first visit to Rajasthan after he was appointed the party's Rajasthan in-charge, Maken addressed party workers in Alwar district's Shahjahapur and alleged that the BJP "killed democracy" in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa and Manipur.
But when they tried doing so in Rajasthan, they faced defeat, he said.

The Income Tax department on Sunday asked banks to refund the charges collected on or after January 1, 2020, on transactions carried out through electronic modes like RuPay cards or BHIM-UPI.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), in a circular on 'imposition of charge on the prescribed electronic modes under section 269SU of I-T Act', also advised banks not to impose any charges on any future transactions carried out through these modes.
To encourage digital transactions and move towards a less-cash economy, the government inserted a new provision, Section 269SU, in the Finance Act, 2019.

Flood waters of the Mahanadi inundated several villages in coastal Odisha on Sunday with over 10 lakh cusec flowing through the Mundali barrage near Cuttack, officials said.
Noting that an inflow of even 7 lakh cusec at Mundali usually triggers flood in the Daya and the Bhargavi, the two tributaries of the Mahanadi, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) P K Jena said, the flood waters have submerged many villages in Kanasa and Delang blocks in Puri district causing two breaches in the embankments of the Daya and another in the Rajua in Khurda district.

More than 14,000 people were evacuated after torrential rains over the past two days triggered flooding in several tehsils of Nagpur district of Maharashtra, officials said on Sunday.
Mouda, Kamptee, Parseoni and Kuhi were the worst affected tehsils, and the administration had to call in the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army to rescue people at some places, they said.
Besides Nagpur, several villages in neighbouring Gadchiroli district also witnessed flooding in some parts following heavy rains, officials said.

Heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat on Sunday created a flood-like situation in many areas including Bharuch, where over 2,000 people from inundated areas along the Narmada river were evacuated following release of water from the Sardar Sarovar dam, officials said.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state agencies were involved in the rescue operations in Bharuch, they said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy showers at isolated places in many districts till Tuesday.

India is all set to launch the bidding process by next month for a Rs 55,000-crore mega project to build six conventional submarines for the Indian Navy to narrow the gap with China's growing naval prowess, government sources said on Sunday.
The submarines will be built in India under the much-talked-about strategic partnership model that allows domestic companies to join hands with leading foreign defence majors to produce high-end military platforms in the country and reduce import dependence.
The sources said the groundwork like specifications of the submarines and other critical requirements for issuance of the RFP (request for proposal) for the mega project, named as P-75 I, has been completed by separate teams of the defence ministry and the Indian Navy.

The Congress on Sunday launched an attack on the BJP over its alleged links with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic maker Sandeep Ssingh, who claimed to be the closest friend of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, and questioned why he had called the BJP office in Mumbai "53 times".
Addressing a press conference here, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "The country wants to know about Sandeep Ssingh. We want to ask with whom is he connected in the BJP and who saves him?"
Singhvi charged that the BJP is getting exposed day by day over its links with Sandeep Ssingh.
