India will not keel over when it comes to border issues: Foreign Secretary

India remains firm and resolute in ensuring that its sovereignty and territorial integrity is protected and will not keel over when it comes to border issues, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said in London on Wednesday.
 
He said that following a build-up of troops, multiple transgressions and attempts to unilaterally change facts on the ground by China, there have been several levels of talks and a fair amount of communication to ensure that the matter can be resolved through negotiation and diplomacy.
 
"It does not help any country to go into aggression. We are not going to be pushed over or keel over and fall backwards. We are not a pushover, he told reporters, when asked for an update on the border situation on the final day of his tour of Europe.

Cabinet nod for MoU with UK in telecom sector

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave approval to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Communications Ministry and UK's Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) for cooperation in telecommunications, information and communication technologies (ICTs).
 
The MoU will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and mutual understanding in the field of telecommunications and ICTs.
 
Post-Brexit, the MoU is also aiming for enhanced scope of cooperation and opportunities for India, an official statement said.
 
The parties have identified the areas of common interest for cooperation -- telecommunications and ICT policy and regulation, spectrum management, telecommunication connectivity that includes mobile roaming, telecommunications and ICTs, technical standardisations and testing and certification along with wireless communications, technological development in telecommunications that includes 5G, Internet of Things, cloud computing, and big data.

The Union Cabinet was apprised on Wednesday of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Spain for scientific and technical collaborations in the field of astronomy. The MoU was signed between Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru and the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) and the GRANTECAN, S.A. (GTC), Spain, a statement said.
 
"The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was apprised of signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru and the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) and the GRANTECAN, S.A. (GTC), Spain to develop scientific and technical collaborations in the astronomy field, the statement said.
 
The activities to be carried out under this MoU will lead to new scientific results, new technologies, capacity building through increased scientific interaction and training, and joint scientific projects. READ ON...

Latest News LIVE: DRDO test fires Pinaka rocket system

The DRDO on Wednesday said it successfully test-fired a new version of the Pinaka rocket system off the coast of Odisha. The premier military research organisation said a total of six rockets were launched in quick succession and the tests met "complete mission objectives".
 
"Enhanced version of PINAKA Rocket System, developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has been successfully flight-tested from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha today," it tweeted.
 
The DRDO said the enhanced version of the Pinaka rocket system would replace the existing Pinaka Mk-I rockets, which are currently under production.
 
The Pinaka rockets have a range of around 37 km. In the last two months, India has test-fired a number of missiles, including a new version of the surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile BrahMos and an anti-radiation missile named Rudram-1.

Central Teacher Eligibility Test to be held on Jan 31, 2021: Education Minister

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will now be held on January 31 next year, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' said. The exam was earlier scheduled to be held on July 5.

"The 14th edition of Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) which was scheduled to be held in July in 112 cities all over the country and postponed due to administrative reasons, the said examination will now be held on January 31," Nishank said.
 
"To maintain social distance and other safety measures, the said examination will now be conducted in 135 cities," he said.
 
According to officials at the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), a large number of requests have been received from the candidates for change of option for their examination city as they have shifted due to COVID-19. READ ON...
