Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the arrest of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia urging him to dispel the perception that the AAP leader was being targeted for political reasons.
The CBI had arrested Sisodia on February 26 in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.
Vijayan, in his letter, said the arrest of Sisodia has "lent further force to the argument" about certain actions of the central investigation agencies.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Tuesday questioned and recorded the statement of former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia as part of its money laundering probe into alleged irregularities in the excise policy matter, official sources said.
The federal probe agency also made a fresh arrest in this case as it took into custody Hyderabad-based liquor businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai on Monday evening, they said.
The ED investigators reached the Tihar Jail to record the statement of Sisodia under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Former Union Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram has alleged that the bulk of the amount of over Rs 12,000 crore electoral bonds sold so far has been donated to the BJP anonymously.
In a series of tweets on Monday, the Congress leader said, "Over Rs 12,000 crore worth Electoral Bonds sold so far. The bulk of the amount has been purchased by corporates and donated to the BJP anonymously."
He further slammed the corporates for donating money through electoral bonds to the government.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said he will pray for the country on Holi as he claimed those doing good work are being arrested while those looting the country are getting away.
Addressing a digital press conference, he said he was worried about the state of affairs in the country.
"Everyone knows that government schools and hospitals are in a bad shape... But two people -- Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain -- who improved these government schools and hospitals are in jail," he said.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to accused BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa in connection with the bribe for tender scam case.
The single bench division court headed by Justice K. Natarajan after granting interim anticipatory bail directed the accused MLA to appear before the investigation officer within 48 hours of the order.
The accused MLA has to give Rs 5 lakh bond and two sureties before the court. The bail will be granted to the accused MLA, until the Lokayukta police submit their reports and documents against him, the court said.

US First Lady Dr Jill Biden on Monday termed "ridiculous" a proposal from Republican presidential aspirant Nikki Haley that candidates over the age of 75 should undergo a mental competency test.
"Ridiculous," Dr Biden told CNN in an interview when asked about such a proposal from Indian American Haley, who announced her presidential run on February 14.
Haley's proposal has caught national attention, but she has been slammed by leaders in both the Republican and the Democratic parties.

The parents of singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead last year, sat on a protest outside the Punjab Assembly complex here on Tuesday seeking justice for their son.
Speaking to reporters, an emotional Balkaur Singh said the masterminds behind his son's murder were still at large. He said nothing concrete has been done by the investigation agencies and demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

The country's infection tally stands at 4.46 crore (4,46,88,367), the data updated at 8 am stated.

The Karnataka unit of BJP, which suffered a setback following MLA Madal Virupakshappa being named as the prime accused in a bribe for tender case, is considering expelling him from the party, sources have confirmed.
The MLA's bail plea is coming up for hearing on Tuesday, and all eyes are on the court.
Sources said that the party leaders and high command have taken a call already in this regard. The party has also decided not to issue the ticket to contest election to any of his family members.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) conducted the Rail Track Rocket Sled deployment tests of the Gaganyaan Pilot and Apex Cover Separation (ACS) parachutes in cluster configurations at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh, on March 1 and 3, 2023, an official statement said.
"The first test simulated the clustered deployment of two pilot parachutes. One parachute was subjected to a minimum angle with respect to flow conditions and the second parachute was subjected to a maximum angle with respect to flow. These pilot parachutes are used in the Gaganyaan mission to extract and deploy the main parachutes independently," the statement read.
