Delhi court allows Engineer Rashid to attend Budget Session in custody

A Delhi court on Saturday granted custody parole to jailed Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid to attend the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament. Custody parole entails a prisoner being escorted by armed police personnel to his place of visit. Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma passed the order, granting Rashid permission to attend the session that would begin on January 28, subject to conditions imposed earlier about travel costs and others. Rashid's counsel Vikhyat Oberoi told the court that his client's appeal about travel costs is pending before the Delhi High Court. In November last year, the court had granted Rashid custody parole to attend the Winter Session of Parliament on all dates. It had also allowed him to attend the Monsoon Session between July 24 and August 4, 2025, in a similar manner. 1984 anti-Sikh riots: Court acquits Sajjan Kumar in Janakpuri violence case

A Delhi court on Thursday acquitted former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in a case related to inciting violence in Janakpuri and Vikaspuri areas in the national capital during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh orally pronounced a brief order acquitting Kumar. A reasoned order is awaited. In August 2023, a court had charged Kumar with rioting and promoting enmity, while discharging him of murder and criminal conspiracy offences. In February 2015, a special investigation team registered two FIRs against Kumar based on complaints of violence in the Janakpuri and Vikaspuri areas during the riots. The first FIR was over the violence in Janakpuri, where two men -- Sohan Singh and his son-in-law Avtar Singh -- were killed on November 1, 1984. The second FIR was registered in the case of Gurcharan Singh, who was allegedly set ablaze on November 2, 1984, in Vikaspuri. Land-for-job 'scam': Court orders framing of charges against Lalu, others

A Delhi court on Friday ordered framing of charges against RJD chief and former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his family members and others in the alleged land-for-job scam. Special Judge Vishal Gogne said Yadav used the railway ministry as his personal fiefdom in order to carry out a criminal enterprise where public employment was used as a bargaining chip to acquire land parcels by the Yadav family in connivance with railway officials and his close aides. The court framed charges in the case against 41 persons, and discharged 52, which included railway officials. Earlier, the CBI had submitted a verification report regarding the status of accused persons in the case, saying out of the 103 accused named in its charge sheet, five died. The court has posted the matter for formal framing of charges on January 23. India Gate protest case: Delhi court grants bail to one of the accused

A Delhi court on Wednesday granted bail to one of the protesters arrested in connection with an agitation against air pollution at the India Gate on November 23, where slogans were allegedly raised in support of slain Maoist commander Madvi Hidma, saying he was not required for further investigation. Hearing the bail plea of Akshay E R, the court of District Judge Dharmendra Rana said, The applicant (Akshay) was arrested on November 23 and has been in continuous custody since then. It is submitted that the investigation is complete and thus no custodial detention of the applicant is required. The court noted that the co-accused in the case had been granted bail and that the accused had no past criminal antecedents. Court defers order on framing charges against Lalu in land-for-job scam

A Delhi court on Thursday deferred its order on framing of charges in the alleged land-for-job scam involving RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his family members and others. Special CBI Judge Vishal Gogne directed the CBI to file a status report after verifying the status of the accused persons in the case. Of the 103 accused persons in the case, four have died. Judge Gogne posted the matter for further proceedings on December 8. Delhi court orders charges against Sushil Ansal in false passport case

A Delhi court has ordered framing of charges against the Uphaar fire tragedy convict Sushil Ansal in a separate case for allegedly concealing criminal cases and submitting false declarations to renew a passport. Ansal was booked by the crime branch of Delhi Police in 2019, and he was accused of furnishing false information, as he failed to declare his conviction in the 1997 Uphaar cinema fire tragedy. Delhi court grants bail to 8 arrested in scuffle with cops at India Gate

A Delhi court on Tuesday granted bail to eight protesters arrested in connection with a scuffle with police outside the Parliament Street Police Station. Police had originally arrested 17 people in a case lodged at Parliament Street Police Station. On November 28, nine of them were granted bail. Delhi court sends 3 India Gate protesters to police, 7 to judicial custody

A Delhi court on Monday remanded three protesters to three days of police custody in a case relating to the alleged use of pepper spray on police personnel during a demonstration at the India Gate over pollution last month. The trio was identified as Ravjot, Gurkirat and Kranti. The court also remanded seven other accused protesters to seven-day judicial custody. While Delhi Police requested 10 days of police custody for Ayisha Wafiya and three other women, the court granted them only three days of judicial custody. A Delhi court on Friday sent eight accused arrested in connection with a case related to using 'pepper spray' on police personnel to seven-day judicial custody. Judicial Magistrate Aridaman Singh Cheema sent the accused to seven-day judicial custody. Earlier in the day, these protesters got relief from Judicial Magistrate Sahil Monga, who granted them bail in a case related to scuffle with police personnel at the Parliament Street police station. BMW accident case: Accused driver gets bail, told to submit passport

A court here on Saturday granted bail to Gaganpreet Kaur, the key accused in the BMW accident case. Kaur, 38, is accused of being behind the wheel of the BMW car that rammed into a two-wheeler being ridden by Navjot Singh, a senior finance ministry official, and his wife. The 52-year-old government employee died, while his wife was grievously injured in the incident.
