Modi thanks Brazil for support to India's NSG bid

India and Brazil signed four MoUs for enhanced co-operation in various fields including investment and agriculture

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday thanked the Brazilian President, Michel Temer, for his country's support in "understanding India's aspirations" for acquiring membership in the Nuclear Suppliers' Group (NSG) even as four Memorandum of Understandings were inked between the two countries. 

Modi, who met the Brazilian President on the sidelines of the BRICS summit at Goa, also thanked Brazil for supporting India's actions against terrorism and for early adoption of the key anti-terror initiative at the UN - Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT).

"We deeply appreciate Brazil's support for India's actions in combating terrorism".

"India and Brazil have agreed that (the) world must come together to fight (against) this menace (terrorism) without distinction or discrimination," he said.

Modi, in his media statement, described Brazil as one of  India's most important economic partners in Latin America.

"Brazil is among our most important economic partners in Latin America. We have made progress in opening new areas of cooperation during this visit in drug regulation, agricultural research and cyber security," he said.

He said bilaterally and multilaterally, the partnership between India and Brazil is filled with possibilities that India is keen to harvest.

The four MoUs inked are in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry; regulation of pharmaceutical products; cattle genomics and assisted reproductive technologies; and investment cooperation and facilitation treaty.
