The Nationalist Congress Party has come up with a district committee that has as many as 193 members, including 29 vice presidents and 44 general secretaries.
The new body comprises 52 secretaries, 24 executive committee members, 14 taluka unit presidents, 24 special invitees, a PRO and a treasurer among other office-bearers who make it a 193-member committee, unit president Suresh Lonkar told a press conference. Besides Lonkar, Food and Drug Minister Manohar Naik, MLC Sandeep Bajoria, ZP president Pravin Deshmukh, Ex-MLC and Cotton Federation chairman N P Hirani, former MLAs Prakash Patil-Deosarkar, Annasaheb Parvekar, Bapurao Panghate and Vijay Patil Chondikar figure among the prominent invitees.
"We have started the party strengthening activities from the grassroot level and the exercise is being done with an eye on 2014 elections," Lonkar said. When asked about the NCP forging a pre-poll alliance with Congress, Naik said the local leaders want to face the polls alone. However, he added that the final decision in this regard would be taken by the party high-command.
"We have our own limitations in this regard and hence it is premature to predict the possibilities of alliance with Congress at this stage," Naik said.
