NCW slams Salman for rape remark, asks for apology

Criticising Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for his remark that he felt like a "raped woman" after shooting a wrestling scene in his upcoming film "Sultan", the National Commission for Women on Tuesday asked him to apologise within seven days.

"Just because he is Salman Khan does not mean he will make such a statement. This is sad," National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam told the media here.

She said Salman may be issued a summons if he failed to comply.

"It is like the most difficult thing... when I used to walk out of that ring, it used to be actually like a raped woman walking out... it feels like the most difficult... I couldn't take steps," Khan is heard saying in an audio clipping during interaction with a group of journalists.

Asha Devi, mother of the infamous 2012 Delhi gang-rape victim, said she was "hurt" by Salman's remarks.

"He says he felt like a raped woman. What does he know of rape?" she told a news channel, trying to fight back tears.

Asha Devi's daughter Nirbhaya was brutalised in a moving bus in Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012. She died in a Singapore hospital after battling for life for several days at a Delhi hospital.
