Oommen Chandy discharged from hospital

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was discharged from a hospital here on Tuesday, after undergoing treatment for injuries suffered after protesters pelted stones at his car in Kannur on Sunday.

Chandy was allegedly attacked by the opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) workers on Sunday.

Chandy said he has been advised rest for two more days.

"I have been asked to take rest for two days. Except the cabinet meeting, I have not planned any other activity for myself. I have decided to stick to the doctor's advice to take rest," he said.

While taking the blame for the attack on himself, Chandy said he was informed about the possibility of violence by his party workers and the police.

"If there was any failure on the part of the police, I am responsible for it. When I started from Thalaserry, I was told three gates of the venue were blocked by Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) activists, and that there could be violence. That very moment, I called the ADJP (Additional Director General of Police) and informed him that I have already started from the place around 20 minutes ago and no action should be taken."

Chandy sustained injuries on his forehead and the window panes of his official car were broken by protesters demanding explanations over the solar panel scam.

Chandy was to attend the 43rd Kerala Police Annual Athletic Meet and a public meeting organised by the Congress party, when he was attacked.

Police have so far booked several CPI (M) activists, even as CPI (M) leaders maintained that they had nothing to do with the incident.
