In a bid to ease the vehicular movement on the roads here, Gurgaon Traffic Police have issued 29,752 challans and collected fine of over Rs 1.02 crore since August 17.

The officials have been directed by new police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar to show no leniency against traffic violators and fine them on the spot, Gurgaon Police PRO, ACP Hawa Singh said, adding following the instructions, 29,752 challans have been issued to violators and Rs 1,02,89,200 collected since August 17.

He claimed that now the city's roads are found without any traffic jam due to the strengthened traffic management.

"Challans were issued to people for drunken driving, violating traffic rules and hooliganism during the night hours on the busy MG Road," Singh said.

Traffic police, along with officials of police stations concerned, have detained around 350 'Romeos' under Operation Majnu for harassing women or involving in brawls in an inebriated state.

"We started a special drive against wrongly parked vehicles on chowks and intersections. As a result, major intersections such as Iffco Chowk, Rajeev Chowk, MG road, old Delhi road, new and old railway road, Sohna road, Sadar Bazar are now more than 60 per cent congestion free," the ACP said.

Around 37,000 vehicles are registered every month with the road transport authority here.
