Pak should punish 26/11 accused, enough evidence given: Shinde

The home minister says Pakistan has not taken any action to dismantle terror infrastructure on its soil

Pakistan should punish those involved in 2008 Mumbai terror attack as enough evidence has been given to the neighbouring country, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said today.

"We have handed over all the relevant proof to Pakistan. We are urging them to take quick and urgent action against the perpetrators of 26/11 attack," he told reporters here on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the country's worst terror strike.

Shinde said for expediting the trial in Pakistan, India had permitted a Pakistani judicial commission to visit the country twice to examine and take statements of investigating officers and others in connection with the case.

On the terror infrastructure across the border, the Home Minister said despite repeated appeals, Pakistan has not taken any action.

166 people were killed when 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists carried out the audacious terror attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008 after coming from Karachi via the sea route.

While nine terrorists were killed in the ensuing gun battle, Ajmal Amir Kasab was caught alive. After long trial, Kasab was sentenced to death and he was hanged on November 21, 2012 in Pune's Yerwada Central Jail.

LeT operatives Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Hammad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jameel Riaz, Jamil Ahmed and Younas Anjum were arrested in Pakistan in 2009 for the Mumbai carnage. They have been charged with planning, financing and executing the strike.

However, their trial has been proceeding in a very slow pace despite repeated pleas by India to expedite it. Pakistan has also not yet taken any action against LeT founder Hafiz Sayeed, the mastermind of 26/11 attack.
