Printers' cluster set up in Mysore

A Rs 15 crore printers' cluster is likely to come up on a three-acre land in the Koorgalli industrial area of Mysore. The cluster is expected to make available modern printing technology for over 300 printers of Mysore district, when set up.

The proposal drafted by the printers of Mysore jointly after formulating a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), has been sent to the Centre for approval under its clusters' scheme by the Karnataka Government. The State Government has given its approval in principle for the proposal.

According to the Mysore District Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Association, the Mysore Printers' Cluster (MPC) has planned publication of a printers' handbook listing all the offset, screen printing, plux printing and digital printing establishments in the district, availing assistance from the Centre and State Governments. A thousand copies of the handbook to be printed will be sent to various Government and non-Government agencies free of cost, Association General Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain said.

An 11-member team of the MPC recently visited the Printing Training Centre of the Karnataka State Printers' Association in Bangalore and held discussion with its President, Ashok Kumar, and Secretary Mohan Kumar on the latest printing technology, the outcome of Bangalore's Printech Park cluster, and benefits offered by the State and Central Governments for printing technology advancement. They also obtained details about the modern printing machines and new technology adopted by the Lakshmi Printing Press.

Government of India Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development Organisation Director S.M.Jamakhandi and Small Industries Development Corporation Regional Manager Ravikumar were briefed on the MPC proposal of setting up the printers' cluster in Mysore. MPC General Secretary Ramesh has appealed to all those engaged in printing works in Mysore district to send details of their units to be included in the handbook To be published by the MPC shortly.
