Railway projects sanctioned during Mamata Banerjee's time to be completed

Work on railway projects in West Bengal that were sanctioned during Mamata Banerjee's tenure as railway minister are advancing and would be completed one by one, Union minister of state for Railways Rajen Gohain on Friday said here.

"Railway projects for Bengal sanctioned during Mamata Banerjee's tenure are advancing," Gohain said after inaugurating the newly constructed Jubilee Bridge over Hooghly river connecting North 24-Parganas and Hooghly districts.

Seeking to allay apprehensions about the future of the projects during the BJP-led NDA government, he said "these projects will be completed one by one."

Claiming that the standard of services for passengers have not been up to the mark in the past, Gohain said, "The present government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working towards achieving proper and good service to railway passengers and other customers."

The 415 metre-long single girder Jubilee Brigde replaced the old dilapidated bridge of the British era at a cost of Rs 290 crore.

The inauguration of the new bridge on the busy route would facilitate faster and increased train services on the route connecting Sealdah station with North Bengal.
