Hours after cancelling his scheduled visit to the US and Russia, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at a high-level meeting here on Sunday afternoon reviewed the terror attack on an Army camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 17 soldiers were killed.

The meeting was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehershi and senior civil and security officials.

At the meeting, Doval and other officials briefed Rajnath Singh on various implications of the attack and shared the intelligence inputs on various "nefarious" activities being planned by a "neighbouring country".

Sources said that "it was a clear case of cross-border attack", but government officials have declined to identify the group that carried out the early morning attack. Security forces shot dead all four heavily-armed attackers.

Earlier, Rajnath Singh spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

"They have apprised me of the security situation in the state," he said.

In an effort to discuss India's campaign against terrorism, the Home Minister was scheduled to travel to Russia for a five-day visit beginning on Sunday.

Singh was also later scheduled to be in the US for a week-long visit starting from September 26 for the Indo-US Homeland Security Dialogue with his American counterpart Jeh Charles Johnson.
