Airbus' President and CEO Tom Enders and UNCBD Executive Secretary Ahmed Djoghlaf signed the partnership yesterday at Farnborough Air Show, where the theme is sustainable aviation.

The 'Green Wave' initiative will provide support to schools around the world to educate their students on the crucial role that protecting the diversity of life on earth plays in our lives and our futures, and will encourage them to plant trees and to celebrate the International Day for Biodiversity at 10 am on May 22 each year.

Airbus' initial involvement is to help raise public awareness of 'The Green Wave' initiative through a joint global communications campaign. The European aerospace major will then work with airlines and other industry members to further develop support for 'The Green Wave' campaign and the UNCBD.

"Deforestation is responsible for 20 per cent of the greenhouse effect that causes global warming so the 'Green Wave' is a great project for us to start with," said Enders.

Djoghlaf added, "The Green Wave campaign aims at establishing strong links between children and nature as well human and international solidarity between the schools of the world".
