Andhra plans ITIs in all Assembly constituencies

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up at least one industrial training institute (ITI) in each Assembly constituency to to take advantage of the new industries being set up in the state, according to chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

At a review meeting with technical education and labour and employment departments, he said the new ITIs would be managed by societies. The centre of excellence concept would be popularised among the industries.

There are 576 government and private ITIs in the state. About Rs 139.32 crore from the state, World Bank, public private partnerships and other modes will be released shortly.

The government will release Rs 2 crore for four residential ITIs for SC/ST apart from giving Rs 5,000 incentive to private ITIs for providing placement of trainees. It will supply precision tools to the institutes and will arrange for field trips to the principals to Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat to study the ITI models there, according to a release.
