Industry in the state is currently reeling under an effective power cut of over 70 per cent, according to The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Fapcci) president Devendra Surana.

Ever since the power cuts were imposed a year ago on September 15, 2011, things have gone “from bad to worse and this will force closure of all industries,” Surana stated in a press release.

According to Surana, out of a total number of 168 hours in a week, three days power holiday meant a power cut of 72 hours. Added to this was peak hour restriction of 16 hours when power was supplied.

Besides, the government stipulated that only 60 per cent actual power supplied (80 hours) should be utilised. This amounts to availability of power for the industry for just 48 hours in a week. In percentage terms, this works out to 28.57, which means a power cut of 71.43 per cent.

Recently, the state government had announced revised measures effective September 12, wherein 60 per cent quota of power was given to the industry. The industry was also promised continuous power supply but, Surana said, all of a sudden 3 days power holiday in a week was announced.
